Chapter 10 - The Balrog

Start from the beginning

Tauriel rushed over to Frodo, with Aragorn, who had awoken, to see if Frodo was still alive.

Third Pov

Just when everyone surrounded Frodo, his eyes started fluttering, and opened them. He gasped for breath, Everyone was relieved by that, then just then, Gandalf realized that there was more coming. Gandalf yelled at the rest of the Fellowship to hurry up and leave this place. But, not long after running out of the tomb, hundreds upon thousands of orcs surrounded them.

As Gimli let out a yell, a bright red flash lit the end of the hallway, followed by a thundurus rumble. And for some strange reason, all of the orcs have fled the scene.

Gandalf wearily looks down the hall, and then closes his eyes, concentrating on something. Boromir asks, "What is this new devilry?" Gandalf does not respond for a while, but when a few moments passed, he opened his eyes, and responded. "A balrog-a demon of the ancient world." The thing-Balrog- growled again, still hiding behind the pillar. Both elves looked at it with fear. Legolas pulled Tauriel closer to him, and Tauriel hugged him, hiding herself in his arms.

Gandalf turned to them, and shouted, "This foe is beyond any of you! Run!"

They all ran to a bridge, with Gandalf shepherding them there. The bridge was made out of steps, with some open spaces where they could fall to their death. Aragorn turned around and yelled his name.

Gandalf yelled back at Aragorn. "Lead them on, Aragorn! The bridge is near!" Aragorn walked up to the old man, but he pushed him back. "Do as I say!"

Just then, the Balrog roars at the Fellowship. They all jumped, and quickly ran down the stairs as scared as if it's raining down hellfire.

As they ran down the stairs, there's a huge gap in the middle. Boromir had jumped first, followed by Merry and Pippin. Then Sam jumped. Then Gandalf. Then Legolas jumped over followed by Gimli. As Gimli jumped, he leaned back when he jumped, and Legolas reached for the beard.

"Not the beard!" Gimli yelled at him. Everyone tried to hide their laugh with a cough, but failed. Gimli grumbled about it.

After Gimli made it over safely, Tauriel jumped, and landed safely into Legolas's open arms.

It's Aragorn's turn with Frodo after that, but more of the staircase fell into the hole. Aragorn leaned on his side of the bridge, and some people on the other side opened their arms to help Aragorn and Frodo to get to them.

As they all ran down the stairs, above them rained down arrows. Legolas, Aragorn, and Tauriel all shot at them, wanting to end their misery in this haunted place. But then, they all heard the Balrog behind them. They all ran to the door, except Gandalf. He didn't move a bit. He turned to the Balrog, and held out his staff and sword, and chanted, "You cannot pass".

Frodo yelled, "Gandalf!"

Tauriel turned at him, looking horrified. Legolas came to her, and hugged her tight. Everyone else just watched with horror.

Gandalf continued. "I am the servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the Flame of Anor..."The dark fire will not avail you! Flame of Udûn!Go back to the Shadow! YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" A bright light followed, and the Balrog fell off the edge, into the hole. Gandalf leaned on his staff, exhausted. Just as he walks back, the Balrog's whiplash latches onto Gandalf's ankle, and pulls him down. Just before he fell, he tells everyone, "Fly, you fools."

Everyone was dismayed, but they had to get out of there. They all ran out, except Pippin, who stood there, paralyzed in fear. No one had noticed him, frozen. When they all got out, they all collapsed onto the ground.

Just before Aragorn started talking, Tauriel realized they were missing someone. "Pippin's gone. He still might be in there. I'm going to go get him." Just before anyone could utter a word, she ran inside to go get Pippin.

She saw Pippin frozen at the doorway. Just as she grabbed him, she felt an excruciating pain enter her shoulder, and she cried out in pain. Pippin stood there in fear as the arrow entered her body, not knowing what to do. She quickly got up, and grabbed Pippin, and ran out of there.

When they got out there, Tauriel's vision started to get peppered with black dots, and she started to sway. Legolas rushed to her just before she black out. Pippin looked scared to death, and stood there, silently crying, saying that it's his fault. Merry shushed him, but he continued to cry. They all stared at Aragorn, waiting for instructions.

"We seek refuge in Lórien." Aragorn told everyone.

A/N This story will be on hold for a month or two.
