"Earth to George?" Karl questioned, waving his hand in front of George's face. George didn't even realize he had dozed off, lost in his own thoughts.
"Oh, sorry, I must have dozed off." George replied, letting out a small laugh.
"We're going out tonight." Quackity stated from the kitchen. George replied with a half smile and nod.
George didn't have a lot of friends, the only real friends he had was Karl and Quackity. Growing up in George's household was like a prison to him. He was always following a daily schedule, filled with chores and no time to really be a child. He didn't get to meet many kids his age, and have an imagination.
Every time George asked his parents to go play outside his parents would shake their head no, giving him more chores to do. When He would ask his parents why, they would always reply with "Because." He didn't ever question his parents further than that, mainly because he was too scared to do so.
When George turned 15, he was tired of only being confined to the comfort of his own home. He wanted to see what was beyond the same walls he looked at everyday. So, he began to sneak out every night.
The first night he snuck out, he went down to the beach. He had always wanted to go to the beach, to look out into the ocean and hear the waves crashing against the pier. That same night, he met Quackity and Karl.
He remembered meeting Quackity first. He was intrigued by the way he was so free spirited. As the boy with the long hair, and a black beanie walked up to him, George felt a little intimidated. Not by Quackity's looks, but by his personality. George always wanted to be free spirited, test his limits, but he never did, and he blames that on his parents and the way they raised him.
That night, Quackity showed George all of his favorite spots on the beach. He showed George this hidden park just outside of the pier, it was Quackity's spot to get away from the real world.
George learned a lot that night about Quackity. As they sat on the rusty swings of the park, Quackity had spilled his life story. He had a loving family, they would wake him up with breakfast in bed, let him have an hour of play time everyday.
Although he had the life George wishes he could have, Quackity felt the weight of the world on his shoulders. According to Quackity, his parents were high maintenance and expected a lot out of him. He couldn't really express himself the way he wanted because his parents expected him to act like a grown up at the age of 10.
So, at night, much like George, he sneaks out to experience some freedom and be who he wants to be. This park became his safe place, it was quiet, and it had gave him joy. As they sat there on those swings, George felt like he had found a place he had really fit in.
"Oh." Quackity said, reaching out to George for a handshake. "Im Alex by the way, but my friends call me Quackity."
George looked at his hand before shaking it, giving Quackity a small smile. George studied him, was this his first friend? He wanted to tell Quackity how much he appreciated him, but decided against it for now.
"What?" Quackity questioned, letting out a small chuckle.
"I've never had any friends before." George admitted softly, looking down at the ground. He could feel Quackity looking at him with sad eyes. He could see Alex pulling out a cell phone, dialing a number. "Who are you calling?"
"Another friend, I think you'll like him."
With that, Quackity introduced George to Karl. The three of them became best friends that night. They talked all night, played Hide-N-Go-Seek Tag, and tried to find 'treasure' on the beach.
Every night they would meet up at the park for years. When they all hit College, they decided to get an apartment together. They found a nice three bedroom apartment right near their campus.
Living with Quackity and Karl made George realize how lucky he was. He appreciated the both of them so much, and made sure to tell them almost everyday. Quackity, especially. George and Quackity grew close, they were practically brothers. They shared everything, and would have late night talks when George felt like he didn't deserve this life.
"So where are we going exactly." George asked, getting up from the couch. He made his way over to the kitchen where Quackity was, and stole a piece of bacon he had made.
"I overheard some people talking about a carnival that's happening at the pier tonight." Karl answered, popping open a white monster. George couldn't believe the amount of monsters Karl would consume, it made him sick every time he chugged one. "It's supposed out be a lot of fun. so get ready because we're going to leave soon."
George looked down and felt like his attire was fitting enough. His all black shirt had some white fuzz on it, but he could easily get it off with a lint roller. His black sweats were comfortable in case he wanted to play any carnival games or ride any rides.
"I think im just going to wear this." George proudly stated. Quackity and Karl just exchanged a look with a smile. He chose to ignore the idiots.
"Well, Karl and I are ready, so I guess we can head out now." Quackity claimed, looking at his watch. "It's already nine." George and Karl nodded, grabbing their wallets.
George felt good about tonight. For some reason, he felt like tonight was going to be filled with an unexpected twist. He looked at himself in the mirror by the front door, and smiled. Young George would be proud that he's not living with his family anymore, and how he managed to make two best friends, that would give him the best night of his life.
