"Have a seat." He pointed to the chair in front of his desk.

I sat down. He looked at me as if waiting for me to say something.

"What?" I asked confused.

"You're starting trouble before you even get on the job good."

"What are you talking about?"

"Chad said you were rude to him yesterday."

I laughed. "You can't be serious. He came into my office demanded that I do his grunt work."

"Fall back okay."

"You want me to fall back? He's starting shit."

"That's my wife's brother and I don't have time to be getting into it with him. Because then my wife punishes me if you know what I mean. That's like her bestfriend."

"I could care less about your wife not giving you sex. I'm not letting that asshole disrespect me."

"Amb please just make an effort to be cordial."

"I didn't say anything to him."

The door creaked open and a woman walked in. She was dress fashionably with a crown of locks adorning her head.

"Hey babe." Omari got up.

"Hey." She looked at me then Omari pecked her lips.

"This is Amber. Our new attorney. Amber this is my wife Shante."

"Nice to meet you." I held out my hand for her to shake. She did.

"She's a judge."

"For this division?"

"No. Narcotics." She responded. "But you left this on the counter at home."

She handed him his wedding ring.

"Took it off to wash my hands and forgot it. Thank you."

"Amber can I speak to my husband alone." She smiled at me.

"Of course." I got up and left. I don't know what that was about but she is going to light into his ass.

I walked to my office to see Chad seated in the chair across from my desk.

"I was looking at this pic. That your husband?"

"Don't worry about it. What do you want?"

"He's my son's dentist. Does pretty good work. Over charges but good work nonetheless."

"Find your way back to your office."

"I came to go over this case. We got a trial Friday and I don't know about you but I like being prepared." He sat his papers out on my desk like it was his.

"First you lie to Omari. The you come demanding things. You are so rude I don't know how your son's mother puts up with you."

"My son's mother is dead. So I'd appreciate it if you kept her out your mouth."

"Sorry Chad. I didn't know. But you need to respect me. I didn't come here to take your spot or compete. Just to work."

There was silence for a second. It seemed like he was going to respond to what I said. But he instead talked about the case.

"This is a dispute between to brothers. The one brother fired a gun, he says at the door but it grazed his brothers ear. Said the brother who got hurt was on drugs and was acting irrational so he pulled the gun in self defense." Chad explained.

"Is there a history of drug abuse?"

"Unfortunately."

"This is a tough one. We have to argue that it wasn't self defense. Makes you wish you were back on defense huh?" He chuckled.

"For cases like this I suppose."

There was a knock on the door.

"Come in." I said.

"Chad you got a call on line one in your office." Paula said.

" excuse me." He got up and walked out.

My phone buzzed.
