Maybe—just maybe—Clara was starting to have a specific thing for Percy. A tiny significant something nice wouldn't stop expanding from her gut to her throat like a flash flood of stampeding mastodons.

She knew why Percy was one of the tolerable ones in her life—the only other people were her brother, her one barely-there friend in school, Kim—but it wasn't just because he was nice to her, listened to her, bought her a giant glass of smoothie. Clara knew she liked Percy when she worked her butt off for her recent chemistry test just to impress him. She wanted him to know that she was capable of putting in work and passing her classes. She even smiled with him. She couldn't remember the last time she'd smiled at some person or even Griffin.
