On the paper she left directions to my dorm, and I decided I would go there and see what it was like. It took me awhile to finally make my way through the gigantic castle, and when I arrived at the dorm the door was propped open. I slowly walked in, and I looked around. There were two beds, and it looked like a fairy tale. I was surprised to find a TV above the old fireplace, and the only thing I could think, was how out of place it looked. I walked up to it, and I felt the heat from the fire. "Oh, hi there." I turned in surprise to find a pretty girl smiling at me. She had wavy brown hair, and light blue eyes that I could tell were full of happiness. She was wearing a sleeveless plaid shirt with overalls over it and untied boots. "Uh, hi, I'm Esme, your new roommate." I said, and she grinned, "So you're the new girl with the weird eyes that everyone been talking about." she said. I pressed my lips together, "Yeah I guess I am." I said, and she smiled, and turned. "That one on the one the right is my bed, but your welcome to have the other all to yourself." she said. I nodded, "Thanks" I said, and she smiled as she walked back into the other room that was connected to our room by a door. "Did you guys meet the new girl?" I heard her ask. I walked over to the doorway. There was a couch and a nice open hangout room. There were two boys and a girl sitting on the couch when I looked in, and they were all staring at me with open curiosity. The girl had white hair, and big blue eyes with freckles across her nose and cheeks. One of the guys had dark hair and dark eyes with olive skin and glasses, and he was very good looking. The other guy had pale skin and light blue hair, and he creeped me out. "Yeah, its natural", he said to me with an irritated look, and I was surprised by his rudeness. "That's Hue" the girl in the overalls said, and he did nothing but watch me, she gestured to the other guy, "That's Oliver" she said. He gave me a charming smile. Then she gestured to the girl, "That's kimbly, and I'm Thalia", she said. I nodded, and gave a small wave, "Well, uh, hi everyone, I'm Esme." I said, and they all looked friendly besides the guy with the blue hair. "You're elfish, aren't you?" I heard Hue ask, and I looked over at him with frustration on my face. All of the other three looked at me in surprise. I gave a small nod, he stood up abruptly, "I have to go." he said to his friends and he sulked out of the room. I watched him leave and I raised an eyebrow, "Did I say something?" I asked, and Kimbly waved a dismissive hand, "He has a thing about only associating himself with, uh, pure bloods." she said eyeing me. I looked down at the ground. "We don't though" I heard Oliver say, and I looked up and he gave me a small smile, and Thalia put a hand on my shoulder, "We don't worry about those stupid politics. We are friends with everyone, and no one gets left behind." she said, and I knew I was going to like her. Thalia checked the clock on the wall, and she jumped, "Oh no, we are going to miss dinner." she said, and Kimbly and Oliver stood up abruptly. "They are serving soup tonight, I am not missin that", Thalia said as they headed out of the door, Oliver glanced back, "You coming?" he asked. I shrugged, "Sure" I said, and I realized how hungry I really was.

The mess hall in the castle was huge, absolutely beautiful, just like most of the things I had seen throughout the castle. When we walked in, there were tons of kids everywhere. I saw people from what looked to be seven to an old man who looked sixty, I'm guessing he is a teacher. People were sitting, laughing, eating, and just enjoying life. I couldn't help but smile when I walked in, and Kimberly seemed to notice, "You might want to pick your jaw up off the floor, or people might start thinking your new." she said in a low whisper and I couldn't help but cracking a smile, "This place is truly amazing." I said and she nodded. "It starts to make you feel like you're a princess", she said. "You are a princess, Kimberly" Oliver said, walking up and kissing her on the cheek. I knew instantly that they must be boyfriend and girlfriend. "Yeah, and you're no prince." she said pushing him off. He put his hand on his heart, "Ouch" he said, and they laughed. "Do you guys have to flirt everywhere we go?" Thalia asked, and they looked at her. "What, you've never flirted?" Kimberly asked and Thalia rolled her eyes, "Boys are waste of time, and not something I'm interested in", she said. Oliver raised an eyebrow, "No offence." she said to him and he shook his head. "What about you Esme?" Kimberly asked, and I was startled to be brought into the conversation. "Boys take work, and I think it depends on how much the girl wants to work on the boy", I said, and she laughed. "Very true, I agree", she said. Oliver looked at me with a raised eyebrow, "You sound like you know firsthand", he said. I snorted, "I'm not up to the challenge of working on teenage boys." I said. He shook his head, "Ouch, I am just taking a beating." he said, and stood up. "Gotta hit the thrown, be back in a minute." he said, and he walked away. "I heard rumors that you are in with the teleport boy." Kimberly said, nodding to someone across the room, and I followed her gaze to find Grey talking to a younger group of boys. I felt my stomach flip and I looked back abruptly. Both Thalia and Kimberly burst out laughing, "Oh yeah, she's got it bad." Thalia said, and my face grew red hot. The conversation continued and I had the most fun I had had in a long time. It felt good to not be overwhelmed with any more new information, and I enjoyed relaxing for a few minutes. We had finished our food and were about to leave when I fell to the floor shaking in pain. I cried out, and I felt tears fall down my face. The pain slowly eased away, and my vision started to clear. I saw Kimberly, Thalia, and Oliver peering down at me. I sat up suddenly and they jumped back. I realized that the entire mess hall was quiet and staring at me like I was some wild animal. I felt a hand on my shoulder, "Is, Is that normal?" I heard Thalia ask in a quiet voice, and I looked at her with tears in my eyes from the embarrassment. The conversation in the mess hall had started back up again, and I knew everyone would hear about my weird episode. Thalia, Kimberly, and Oliver looked at me with matching odd expressions. "I have to go." I said, and walked out of the mess hall even though I heard their voices calling after me.

I ran outside to the grounds of the castle into the beautiful countryside, and I kept running until my lungs burned and I couldn't breathe. I bent over and held my knees as I tried catch my breath back before I passed out. I closed my eyes and I felt a tear fall down my cheek. I ran my hands through my hair, and I started pacing back and forth. This day had been the craziest day I have ever had, and I was completely overwhelmed. I felt like such a freak, and I was at a freak school. Where did I belong? Who am I? What can I do? Do people want to kill me because of my mixed blood? I let a few more tears fall down my cheeks and I told myself to get it together. The only problem was that I had no idea what to think. I was now this whole new person, in this whole new world that I knew nothing about. My life is now forever changed, and I am no longer the average girl I had always been. I was now something different... something dangerous. There were people out there who wanted to kill me. I had always been so sure about what I was going to do with my life, and how everything was going to happen. I was going to go to college, and then I was going to pursue my passion for art. I was going to get married and have a family, and live on the beach. I was going to be a normal person, living in a normal world. Now that had all been ripped away from me, and my entire world was flipped on its head. Nothing would ever be the same. Nothing would ever be normal again. What happened to my reality?

I felt someone approaching and I turned instantly, surprised to find Kase. I wiped the tears from my face and tried to put my guard up. He walked out from the trees with his hand in his pockets, and in the moon light he looked even more attractive. I tried to not think about it. "Wow, you are already famous." he said. I looked away and sat down at the little bench that was right by me. "Please go away", I said not wanting to deal with him. "Just seeing if you were alright", he said with a shrug. I rolled my eyes, "yeah right" I said, and he let out a small laugh. "Esme, I don't know what made you hate me so quickly, but I was hoping we could start over." he said. I looked back at him totally taken aback, "Really?" I asked. Why would he possibly want to start over? He had been really rude to me, and I had known from the moment I met him that he wasn't someone I wanted to be friends with. He walked over and took a seat next to me. He smelled nice, and I tried not to think about it. I wanted to scoot away because he made me feel odd, but I didn't want to make him think I was rude, so I didn't. He cleared his throat, "Hi, I'm Kase, wait no." he said, and pretended to think of something better. He cleared his throat again, "Hello, I'm Kase! Oh, that won't work either." he said, and tapped his chin. I couldn't help but crack a small smile at his act. "I'm Kase" he said, and held out a hand. I smiled, "Esme" I said, and he grinned as we shook hands. "You have the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen", he said looking me right in the eyes. I looked down surprised by how earnest he sounded. He leaned forward, and I looked up in surprise, "You're not the only one at the school with elf blood in them", he said with a wink. Suddenly his eyes become unfocused, and then refocused. "Here comes prince charming", he said. Then he stood. I stared at him in surprise, he tipped a pretend hat to me and strolled off back into the forest. I watched him leave, realized I hadn't been breathing, and I sucked in a deep breath. I almost didn't want him to leave. I smacked myself internally for thinking like that. "Esme!" I heard my name, but it wasn't Kase, it was Grey, and I turned to him. "Are you okay?" he asked and I gave him a small smile. "I, Uh, just needed some air." I said, and he nodded. "Want me to walk you back to your dorm?" he asked. I gave him my hand, "Sure" I said. I couldn't help but realize the difference between the way I felt now and when Kase was inches away from me. With Grey I felt happy, with Kase I had a feeling I had never experienced before, one I couldn't quite explain. I pushed these thoughts to the back of my mind and walked with Grey back to the huge castle. When I got to my dorm, no one was in it, and I was so exhausted I just fell right to sleep. I entered my carefree dream world that I visited every night. It was just as eventful as it was every night.
