~•| 1: The Cullens |•~

"Lizzy!" I looked up startled, Alice sat in front of me. She was a girl with a brown pixie cut, bright amber eyes, pale skin, and a cheerful smile. I had worked with her at a coffee shop this summer. I had needed a job and they were hiring. She was a bit odd, but she was sweet and chipper, and the best to work with. "I haven't seen you since summer."

"Oh Alice, it's been awhile." I said smiling. "The coffee shop wasn't the same without you. How are you?"

"I'm great!" She said excitedly. "Would you like to come sit with my family since your all alone."

"Sure." I said. "Better than sitting alone." She stood up and I followed her to their table.

"This is my family the Cullens." She said as we reached the table. "This is Edward." She said pointing to a bronze haired boy who also had amber eyes and pale skin. He smiled at me and I returned it. "That's Emmett and Rosalie." She said pointing to a big guy with broad shoulders, dark hair, and amber eyes with his arm draped around a girl with blonde hair and also amber eyes, she was very pretty. "And this is Jasper." I looked at the last boy who had messy dirty blonde hair and a handsome face. His eyes were also amber and his skin pale, he gave me a sideways smile and I gave him a kind soft smile back. I took a seat between Alice and Jasper. He sifted in his seat a little, and his face shifted to a look of restraint. "Guys this is Elizabeth, we worked at a coffee shop together during the summer."

     "Hi." I said nervously. "Nice to meet you guys."

     "Why were you sitting by yourself?" Asked Emmett, Rosalie nudged him with her arm.

     "Oh....w-well I it's my first day here ant I didn't k-know anyone." I said stuttering a bit, I forgot to mention I was a tad shy.

     "Well now you have five new friends." Alice says and I smile at her.

     "Why did you decide to switch schools in the middle of the school year?" Asked Rosalie. "Did you not like your old school?"

     "N-no it wasn't that, I just wanted to try something new." I said a feeling sadness wash over me as I remember Jane's smiling face and the car accident.

~•| Flashback |•~

I was walking on the sidewalk to the library, I had a test in the morning and I promised my dad I was going to study. I was about halfway there when I heard a sound, a screeching sound. It was the sound of tires skidding along the wet pavement. It all happened so fast. I looked up and watched as a car t-boned another car.

I rushed over to the cars, my heart was racing, as I recognized the car that was t-boned. It was Jane's, I rushed to open the passenger door, and there she lied with blood dripping out her nose and her head rested against the steering wheel. She was dead.

I was holding back the tears as I remember that sad day. But as soon as I felt sadness it was replaced with warmth. Edwards eyes had a hint of compassion. But I didn't feel sad anymore which was weird but I was grateful, cause I didn't want to break down crying on my first day.

The bell rang which meant it was time for class. "Well it was great meeting you guys." I said standing up and waving goodbye. Everyone said by and I turned around and started walking away.

"Lizzy?" Alice called and I turned around and raised an eyebrow. "Join us tomorrow at lunch?"

"Of course." I said with a smile and walking away. Only two more classes and then I can go home and cry.

It was my last class History, my favorite class. I walked in and my teacher greeted me.

"You must be Elizabeth?" She asked.

"Yes I am." I said smiling.

"Elizabeth, I am Miss Janet." She said smiling, I already liked this teacher the best. "You will be sitting with Jasper. Jasper please raise your hand." I see Alice's brother and I take a seat next to him and he shifts uncomfortably again.

"Hello again Elizabeth." He says with a half smile.

"Hi." I said with a soft smile. "But please call me Lizzy, Elizabeth is to fancy." Miss Janet started talking and I turned my attention on her. Today was about the Civil War, and boy was I excited, I loved the Civil War.

"Can someone tell me what started the Civil War?" Miss Janet asked and I immediately raised my hand. "Elizabeth."

"The Civil War began as a result of the long-standing disagreement over the institution of slavery." I answered like I just read out of a text book.

"That is right. Thank you Elizabeth." She said a little surprise that I new that.

"You know your History." Jasper whispered to me.

"It's my favorite subject." I replied, I saw him smirk out of the corner of my eye.

Class ended with only Jasper and I answering the questions, you could tell everyone else didn't want to be there.

"You have impressive knowledge of the Civil War." Jasper said as we walked down the hall.

"I could say the same to you." I say smiling. "The Civil War was always so fascinating to me, as you can probably tell." We both laughed softly. We walked out the exit till we were at the bottom of the stairs.

"Well it was nice meeting you Lizzy." He said.

"Nice meeting you to." I said. "See ya tomorrow." I waved goodbye and he waved back as I walked to my truck.
