changing a character's sexuality (aka the alec lightwood scandal)

Okay so why is this still happening???

If a character is canonically gay, or bisexual, or asexual, etc, meaning it is stated or shown in the character's relationships or interactions, then you CANNOT change that. When you change that, you are changing something about the character that is pivotal to their entire existence.

Identifying as that is extremely important to them. When you change that, then you are no longer writing about that character, and you are disrespecting that character, their actor, and the people who created that character.

And for the people who bring up authors changing someone's sexuality if they are straight, that is not the same thing. Straight people have never been killed for their sexuality, and it's the norm, so you are not allowed to be offended by that.

So, if everyone could all stop erasing Alec Lightwood's (and many other characters') sexuality, that would be great.
