And all she can see are a million memories of them together for that one blissful winter, before it all came burning down.
Nyx turns to see why she's stopped walking in the middle of the ballroom floor, and only has a second to watch the absolute hatred flood into her face, before she uses a shadow to shove him, shove everyone, out of her path.
The room falls silent.
Maeve watches Nikolai as he strides onto the ballroom floor, facing her.
"Hello, thief," he says with a wicked smile.
"Hello, traitor," she responds.
And then they both throw the full force of their power against one another, in a flash of white and a swirl of dark.
When their forces collide, the world seems to explode.
