How long has it been now? It feels like it's been decades since I was given this power, but in reality it's only been a little over a year now. No others have appeared in this plane since the ones directly after me. I've spent a long, long time in the dark from that moment on, training my team to be as strong as possible for when we finally move out. To this day I remember how naive I was when I first appeared here, and now I feel strong enough to take on the entire world. No one is going to get in the way of my goal, even if it means I have to kill more than I plan to.
Standing at the entrance of the deep, dark cave I've been living in with my crew feels so surreal. It's almost been a year since that day. My heart aches recalling it, and it only makes the darkness inside of me surge even stronger. The flames of revenge are burning bright from within, and I look up at the dark and cloudy sky with a determined gaze.
"So we're finally getting started with this war thing..." The young man at my side mutters with a frown on his face.
"Are you getting cold feet already..?" I ask, narrowing my eyes. "If you want even the smallest chance at getting back to your normal life, then you're going to have to fight, you know."
"I know, but I can't help it. You've been doing this for well over a year now, but all of us..? We've never been in a real fight before...much less killed anyone." It's clear as day that he's nervous about moving out today, and he isn't the only one. Only one of them really looks as if they're ready for this.
"If you're lucky, you won't have to do any killing." I state bluntly, not batting an eye.
The young man is silent for a moment, but he meets my gaze. "...Do you really have to kill him, Sanda?"
I feel a bit angry, but before I can answer, another one of them speaks up. "Can you blame him?" The man who answers stands with his arms crossed, leaning on the wall. "If I'd gone through what he did, I can tell you that I wouldn't hesitate to kill the bastard..." His eyes are dark as he says this. Considering he's the only one who looks ready for this, it doesn't surprise me that he can mention something like that so calmly.
"Yeah...I guess that makes sense. I'm sorry for asking you that." The other young man averts his eyes. "I just...wish I didn't have to see someone I respect so much with blood on their hands if it could be avoided."
"It's fine. I used to think that way too." I look back up at the sky, my eyes getting a bit darker as I recall the happy memories. "But I can't afford to think that way anymore. I don't care what any of you think. The moment I see that man...I'm going to make him suffer." I clench my fists tightly. Nobody else speaks; I take that to mean that they all understand. If any of them were to get in my way, I wouldn't hesitate to kill them either. I'm sure that, after all the time we've spent together, they understand that pretty well by now.
I wonder how the others are doing; the group I originally started with when I awakened. I'm sure they've been looking for me all this time. I'm rather amazed I've been able to avoid them for this long. Once the fighting begins, I'm sure I'll see them again, no matter how much I pray that I don't. Akari is sure to get in my way considering the fact that she sees killing as wrong, but if we want this war to end, then there's no choice. "If you wanna run away, now's your chance to do it. Like I said when we first met, I don't particularly need any of you, you'll just be my backup; keeping the others away from me while I take care of my main target."
"Yes yes, we understand oh great one." The older woman standing at the head of the small group behind me half chuckles. "With how much you repeat yourself, you'd think you were trying to convince yourself of that young man."
"No." I don't even look at her as I respond, my fists sparking as I clench them much harder. "I just don't want anyone getting in my way when I finally get my hands on him. Try not to misunderstand." Everyone goes silent once more.
"Now then, let's move." I jump off the ground, leaving a few cracks in it. Electricity swirls all around my body, inside and out, allowing me to fly through the air as if I were weightless. I move quickly, like a bolt of lightning in the sky. I'll know where he is the second he gets into range of my sensory ability, but the range isn't infinite, so I have to move around quite a lot. The others behind me manage to keep up. I'm quite impressed, but it's not all that shocking. This is what I trained them for after all.
I have to admit, I'm starting to get a bit nervous. My heartbeat is speeding up erratically and I can feel myself growing more pale each second. I wonder how I'm going to react when I finally see him again. Just imagining it instantly answers that question. My reaction will be obvious. Dark purple sparks emanate from the entirety of my body, and my eyes glow with pure hatred and murderous intent. "Atiyama Cerne, when I find you, I will kill you."
It only takes a few moments after that sentence leaves my lips for me to detect a signal, and I dive straight for it.
