Magic. An other-worldly concept, widely thought to be nothing more than myth and legend. Something to be read about in children's stories, to keep them from acting out.
It was something always thought of as silly, as stupid, a waste of time, and there were even those who believed magic was purely darkness.
The so-called magic of our world today, is nothing like it was in the past. Our majic today was evil, corrupt, and merely simple card trick illusions to make a quick buck from some unknowing person. It was all just deception, and no one noticed it, and they let it corrupt their minds and hearts with a bad view of the once beautiful and strong magic of this Earth.
Magic used to be the core of the world, but that was when the three gods reigned supreme.
There was the goddess of the Sun, Vialeci. The god of the Moon, Ecliptic. And the god of Death, Void. For years the three ruled together over this world in peace, but slowly, Death began to grow resentful of the two other gods. While the Sun and Moon were praised endlessly for their beauty and wonderful creations and gifts, Death was feared, and sometimes even punished by those with and without magic.
Death's resentment grew and grew, and soon enough, he challenged the Sun and Moon. He was going to take the world by force, and kill off every being within the world, including the Sun and Moon's chosen Elemental Guardians.
These guardians protected the elements, and all mortal beings without magic. These people were chosen at birth, after an act of pure gold, or even after being reborn as something new. These people disappeared one by one after the god of Death's threat.
Weeks after disappearing, their burned corpses were found lying in a field of decaying flowers. These spaces, forever corrupted never to hold beauty again.
Tainted places filled with dark magic and hatred of the departed souls forever watching over them. This tainted magic slowly began spreading over the world, fulfilling the Death's Gods threat as magic and non=magic folk alike fell to the poison from Death's wrath.
Fear grew in the hearts of many, of Death and the poison ever-creeping towards them. For years this plague of death and destruction corrupted the land, taking everything in sight. Till only one Guardian remained, the head guardian of the elements. In exchange for his life, he cast a spell that banished the taint back to the places they came from, where all his guardian brethren fell so many years before.
In an effort to end this madness, the two gods of Sun and Moon dashed to the underworld with a plan. They hoped to discuss things peacefully, and peacefully they did. But with a trap of their own.
The two gods waltzed into the throne room, heavily decorated in black and skulls, with the crimson blood of departed souls dripping from the ceiling at an eerie pace.
For many hours, the three bargained, till finally. It was decided. The god and goddess of the Sun and Moon gave up their immortality to the god of death, along with their powers, in order to preserve the peace and save the race of humanity and whatever magical beings still resided above in the land of the living.
The power surged forth, burrowing deep into the Death God's chest. A bright light encompassing the great demon's body. A yell of victory burst free as he glared down with a victorious smirk painted fiercely over his fiery lips. The demon had won. And this treaty the god and goddess fought to protect, was broken. The God of Death, with his new found powers set off to destroy the world. But something stopped him.
He took one step off his boney throne, then another, cracks of purple and gold light started splitting up across his crimson skin. Fear overtook Death's face, the power of three gods overloaded his system. The God and Goddesses final plan. The Demon screeched with a fury unrivaled and stumbled towards the Sun and Moon, before crumbling into red, gold, and purple dust. It was over. But all the magic of the Sun, Moon, and Death was gone.
The two gods turned to leave, but heard the soft sounds of a wailing baby behind them. Turning back around, the pile of dust had begun to swirl, and in its place, a new guardian was born. A guardian that would produce heirs to the Death god's throne, for death to continue on for centuries to come.
As time passed, magic slowly grew to be thought of as extinct. But in the most remote and secret places of the world, magic flourished and prospered beyond what the Gods of Old could have ever imagined.
