"What?"

"Nova, you're confusing me." He chuckles gently, raising my thigh into his lap.

"You said something else, I- I swear I heard it." The disbelief in his face makes me start to doubt myself.

"Okay. . . Then what did I say?"

"You-" I think back to his words. If he truly didn't say anything, then admitting what I thought I heard could be quite the embarrassing move, so I just shake my head, "Nothing. I must've misheard. . ."

"Hm." He hums, "Listen, I'm gonna have to pull this out."

"Really? Because I never knew that would happen when I asked you to do it."

He huffs, "Whatever, count of three?"

I nod.

"1-"

The metal is ripped from my skin and I yell out in pain, feeling a warm hand pressed against my mouth, muffling my screams of agony.

I writhe under his grasp, feeling him dealing with the wound quickly. As quickly as he can with one hand.

I throw my arm over my eyes, breathing heavily through my nose. Finally, Druig removes his hand, allowing me to take the breath I'd been lacking.

"Are you alri-"

My hand slaps his cheek, "You said on three not fucking one!"

"Yeah well," he holds his burning cheek, "If I went on three you would've been expecting it and it would've been a whole lot worse."

"Whatever." I blow a piece of hair out of my face, leaning my head back against the wall as I try to overcome the pain shooting through my leg.

Druig sighs and nudges my shoulder, "At least it's over now though, right?"

With my chest still heaving up and down, I press my lips together, "Yeah."

"Come on," he extends his hand down as he gets to his feet, "We've got to get back to the others."

I stare at his hand for a few seconds before finally letting him help me up. I immediately take the pressure off my right leg, feeling how painful it is to walk on.

"Come on," Druig mutters quietly, taking my arm and pulling it around his neck, "It's not far."

Druig sets me down on a fallen tree in the clearing where a few other Eternals are gathered, soon joined by Thena and Makkari.

I stare at the hole in my suit, where the blood still soaks even though it's been a good twenty minutes since we started walking.
