CHAPTER 38: Birthday

Start from the beginning

"Good morning." I greeted them and took a seat across from my mom.

"Good morning, Ruby Jane." Dad greeted me and Mom stood up.

"Happy birthday, sweetheart." Mom greeted me and handed me a paper bag.

"Happy birthday, Ruby Jane. It's a gift from the three of us. " Dad pointed at the three of them.

"Thank you, Mom, Dad, and Ella." They nodded and motioned for me to open the gift.

I opened the paperbag and saw a box inside. It's the newest limited edition Chanel bag that I've been wanting to buy.

"Did you like it?" Ella asked, and I smiled at her.

"Of course, it's the bag I've been wanting to buy." I responded, which made her smile widely.

We finished eating our breakfast. Ella went to her school and I went to the company.

The company today is busier than the past few days since we will be holding a very important meeting.

My parents didn't come because they said that their presence was not needed anymore since they had already passed the company to me.

A lot of employees greeted me in the morning and said "happy birthday," which brightened my mood. I felt energized today and I hope it will continue till the end of this day.

I went straightly to the meeting room to see if everything was perfect and nothing would cause a problem.

"Good morning, Ms. Kim." Nancy, my secretary, greeted me with a smile on her face.

"Good morning, Nancy." I greeted her back, and she suddenly handed me a small rectangle box.

"It's not much, but I pick the best one." She said and I accepted it. "Happy birthday, Ms. Kim."

"You didn't have to buy me something. A happy birthday will be fine." I said as I opened her present.

She gave me a beautiful pen that I can use when I'm signing big contracts. It's so pretty and nice.

"Thank you for this, Nancy." She shook her head.

"It's still nothing compared to your gift at my last birthday, which was a mustang." She replied.

"It's just a Mustang, and it's not that expensive compared to other brands." I take out the pen from it's box and place it in my purse.

I looked around the room and I noticed that the blinds were all covering the big glass window, which made me frown because I like it when I see the view of Seoul.

"Nancy, pull up all the blinds. I want to see the view of Seoul while we are in the meeting." She nodded and ordered someone to do it before she followed me from behind.

•••

It's already 11 a.m. The meeting will start soon, and all the investors and business partners are already here.

I'm the youngest here, and I hope they will not use my age against me or disrespect me.

The meeting room door closed and Nancy glanced at me, waiting for my signal. I nodded, and she opened the presentation.

Nancy started the meeting by introducing herself, and she proceeded to discuss the main topic. So far, everything is fine and going well, until an old man raises his hand.

"Why would we invest in a chapel and an orphanage? We can't get any benefit from that; instead those nuns and kids will get all the benefits." He crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow. "Also, we were supposed to be only talking about the next project of Kim Corp, which is building a new hotel in the central part of Seoul."
