In the first week, Mikey had texted you during school hours claiming how bored he was without you. With all the free time on his hands, it came to no surprise he had nothing to do except bother you. Nevertheless, you gave him some of your attention whenever you had the time. Sometimes the texts were so amusing you've caught yourself absorbed in the conversation by sneaking one or two replies during class. You weren't aware of how punctual Mikey was regarding his texts after handing over your schedule. Frankly, his commitment was rather endearing. You had someone to confide in after so long and it felt so free like nothing in the world could disturb your peace; even on days when you were home alone.
However, those joyous talks started fleeting when his responses became slow. Five minutes became ten, ten became an hour, and an hour eventually turned into one text at a time until there was none at all. That was about three and a half weeks ago. The last thing he sent was a "good night" on a Thursday evening. You figured Mikey has been caught up with his own affairs to contact you. Every day you would check your phone for a single reply. Deep down, your heart ached for a connection. A longing to hear his voice, to see his smile and call you a "nerd". As you hold your phone to your chest, you couldn't help but feel foreboding about the situation. There was no one to turn to, not even Takemichi was present.
'I guess he guards me except on occasions.'
Lightning rumbles as droplets of rain begin to grow heavy. "I forgot my umbrella. "You mumbled. You stick your hand out to feel the refreshing water. Small rivers course from the back of your hand all the way down to your fingertips where they come together in the shape of a teardrop. It was rather mesmerizing to watch gravity take its course.
'Why do I feel so depressed? I can't even force myself to work under this weight.'
"Excuse me!" A tiny voice calls to you from behind. A strawberry-haired girl with messy, short hair. Her aura was so warm you could feel it rub off on you. "You're friends with Takemichi, right? I'm Hina. He asked me to look after you." She chirped. "Hello, I'm (Y/n)." You greeted. "If you don't have an umbrella, we could share one." You timidly accept as she happily takes your hand. There is something about her that makes it natural to be around. No awkward tension, and no malice. For a brief second, you wish to be like her than be gloomy. "Th-thank you." You barely managed. "No problem. It's finally nice to meet you. My boyfriend tells me you're Mikey's precious treasure and I wanted to see for myself. I'm so happy he has someone too. I'm cheering both of you on, so that means if you need anything you can ask me." She offered.
You look at her befuddled having no idea who her boyfriend is and where she obtained the information to insert herself as a "friend" so quickly in the span of sixty seconds. "Huh?" You croaked. "Who's your boyfriend and why the hell is he casually exposing his own boss?" You complained. "He's my Takemichi." She simply answered as if resolving every possible explanation. "O-oh! I had no idea he had someone. Not that I was interested or anything." You clarified. "I know. Your heart belongs to Mikey-kun." The name itself sends your heart throbbing as it yearns for the oaf. "Yeah...you can say that." Hina frowns, taken aback by your response. "Is something wrong?" The inquiry was like a loaded gun having to debate whether or not to fill her in. Even so, there is no one else in your life, and your sister is definitely not supposed to know about the relationship. Knowing her, she would lose her shit and do a thorough investigation with the connections she has. The last thing you wanted is to scurry your first love away.
Further down the line, however, there is nothing to lose when technically Hina is on the inside of such matters. "I don't know." You conceded. "I feel so depressed since Mikey hasn't contacted me. It's like I lost myself so unexpectedly and I'm not sure what to do to get through." The Pink-haired girl hums in thought, "yeah, my boyfriend hasn't contacted me either, but I haven't lost faith that at some point he'll return to me. I believe our boys are just busy and it sucks that we have to wait on the side for them to come home, but it's worse if you can't be strong for them." You raise your head towards Hina encouraged by her words of wisdom. "Of course, every relationship is different and it's up to you to decide what you want to do." Your thoughts reminisce to the first day Mikey confessed and flashes to the day at the shrine. He gave you the option for your to make a choice rather than pressure you.
