Sam slumpt out of bed already dreading the day. The sky was grey and the smell of rain filled the air. The grey skys and calm smells relaxed Sam. On these days Sam would go outside and sit on her small wooden porch.
The porch was made of oak wood with a dark stain on top.
Sam absolutely loved her porch. This small wooden porch reminded her of her childhood. How her step dad, Gary, and Sam would have building projects all the time.
Gary used to say "Sam I do this because you deserve to know how a real father should treat you".
This would often bring tears to her eyes. Someone actually cared about her. Really cared, not faked it just to get attention. He really cared about her feelings. Gary became the father figure she never truely had. He would take her to gatherings and protect her at all costs. She was his daughter.
"I love you" 2 years. That is how long it took Sam to say those words.
Gary proved himself every single day. He was good for her mother and he was an amazing father. He stepped up when Sam's father refused to.
Sam smiled at the old memories of her step father. But she soon realized he was gone, causing her to sign into the boring day. .
Sam started to think and looked out into the foggy woods wondering what her life had come to. I mean she became friends with a bunny named Penelope and that was her only true friend. Penelope always showed up when Sam was sad, always. A tear ran down Sam's left check and the distant memory of Penelope. Penelope had passed away six months ago. Although it has been six months, the death still made her sad.
She descided she was going to stay inside and talk to herself. As sad as it sounds she often spent her time in her old master bedroom. Her bed was a queen size with dark red sheets and comforter. Yet she had white fluffy pillows. Her favorite.
So she walked up her creaking stairs slowly. She let the tear burn down her face, blurring her vision. Letting out a choked sob when she reached the top step. Her knees gave out letting her slump to the ground.
"Why me?" She would sob into the air.
Sam asked this often. Why was her life filled with so much death? Why did her step dad have to die that burtally? Why did she have to hold this much emotion about it? Sam would never admit it but the reason the tears tracked down her face and her vision was blurred was because she was scared. Sam was alone in the world now. Her favorite bunny was gone along with her only father figure.
The top step squeaked as she fell. She pulled her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them while crying. She cried till the tear would no longer appear, her eyelashes being darker and filled with tears. The tears being her only hope. The hope she had a long time ago. A sad hope that maybe one day her life would be bright. But as another sob broke out from between her lips that hope was gone.
She was alone once again on her top step crying. The thoughts would run through her head screaming she was not good enough, that she deserved the pain, the death, to heart break.
No one deserves that. Not Sam, not Penelope, not Mars, and not you.
There is little light in life. Sam learned to make the best of it and that is how she survived.
