"So sneaky," I teased. "I guess there's no reason for you to do anything except stay right here, then."
"I'm glad we're on the same page," he told me with a playfully smug look.
"Maybe I'll make Reese's day and go in for a full day of work tomorrow," I pondered, thinking it might be nice to go in early and get a ton of stuff done.
"You're working tomorrow night?" Calum asked, making sure that was my plan. I nodded my head at him and he slowly nodded his head as he focused on cooking. "What will I possibly do during a day away from you?" he joked.
"Somehow... we'll both have to find a way to survive," I responded dramatically, acting as though it pained me to say it. As Calum laughed at my joking manner, I got an idea. "Have you ever been to Andy's?"
"Who's Andy?" Calum asked. I playfully rolled my eyes at his question as he snickered; it was clear he knew I wasn't referring to a person but wanted to be smart.
"It's a breakfast place downtown. We could get brunch on Saturday?"
"Brunch... how sophisticated," Calum said as his brows wiggled. "That sounds fun, I'd love that."
"When I work Friday nights, I usually can't get out of bed before ten-thirty, so we could plan for an eleven-thirty brunch?" Calum nodded excitedly and I made a mental note of the date. "Do you think Ashton and Jane might want to make it double-date? I would just invite all your friends, but... you can't invite singles to brunch."
"Ugh—singles. What losers," Calum joked and I let out a hearty laugh at him for playing along with what I had said. "You'd really wanna invite Ashton and Jane?" Calum asked in a sweet tone.
"Of course! I think it'd be fun," I told him with a nod.
"I really appreciate you wanting to include them, Emerson. I'll text him later and see if they're free." Calum took a step toward me and stole a quick kiss, causing my stomach to swell with butterflies. Before he could successfully turn his focus back on making us dinner, I placed my hand on his cheek and pulled him back down to me, connecting our lips once again.
The moment intensified as our lips desperately clung to one another; it was day three into being official, and we were taking the start of the honeymoon phase very seriously. Once we started actually having sex, I was afraid we'd never make it out of bed again.
Calum backed me up against the counter, his hands on my waist as he closed all of the space between us. In a swift motion, he lifted me up onto the counter and a feeling of excitement overwhelmed my core. He pulled me toward the edge, with my legs on either side of him, and we made no effort to bring an end to our actions. At least not for a couple of minutes, until Calum broke away from me:
"If we don't stop now, I fear dinner will be severely delayed," Calum spoke breathlessly as he pulled away from my lips. "Not to say that I'm deciding one way or the other, I'm just letting you know." I laughed at Calum's last comment but figured that it was probably a smart idea to not let ourselves go hungry.
"We can take a pause so the chef can resume," I declared, giving him permission to continue cooking. Calum pecked my lips several times before fully breaking away and taking a couple of steps to the left, back to where he had been earlier. I glanced over at him to see him smiling foolishly and the look alone caused me to feel weak in all the best ways. "What are you thinking about over there?"
"You, Emerson," he told me, all the while letting his grin widen. "You pop in my head and suddenly I'm smiling like a total dope. I wasn't always like this, you know. Before you came along, my smiles were all very thoughtful and wise-looking. But suddenly you've come into my life and now... I've always got this silly, stupid smile on my face."
"So, you're saying I'm bad for you?" I joked as a blush crept onto my cheeks. Calum's eyes finally trailed over to meet my own before he spoke.
"Quite the opposite. I think I like this version of me a lot better."
