He was afraid that the young man he loved would reject him.
But Chen Hua waited patiently, waiting for the moment where Zhi An said words of rejection. And when he did it, he would make sure to tie him by his side, either forcefully or not. He wouldn't allow anyone to abandon him again, and especially not his soulmate.
But those words never came, instead a soft voice that was full of conviction rang out.
"I believe in the memory I experienced, not through other people's mouths." The young man chuckled as he raised his head, his eyes gazing straight at him without a hint of fear, "I believe that you're not gonna kill me. Am I right?"
Chen Hua didn't answer. His slender and thick eyelashes trembled slightly, and suddenly the corner of his mouth twitched, revealing an inconspicuous arc.
"Yeah, I won't."
Zhi An saw the man's firm gaze and a sigh spilled out. He was thankful that at least his target would no longer want to kill him, but a feeling of distress rose within him when he remembered the words Zhu Liwei shouted before he fainted.
"By the way.... is it true?" The young man hesitantly asked.
"What?"
"....The fact that nobody wants you in this world."
Chen Hua trembled, and with a straight face, calmly answered, "Yes."
"What happened? May I know?"
"It's...", Chen Hua pondered how he would begin his story. It wasn't exactly an appealing story, and more of a sob-story. One that would make any listeners feel sympathy towards him, and he never needed such an insignificant feeling. Moreover, with the concept of rebirth, he doubts anyone would feel the accuracy of his story. He never planned to share it with anybody even in this lifetime.
But the thought of Zhi An crying for him, consoling him, feeling the pain that he experienced, made him exhilarated. Just the thought itself made him feel belonged in this world.
"Let's take a seat first. It will be a while for me to finish my story." The man chuckled lightly, as if what he was about to share was just another bedtime story.
The two men took a seat at the bank of the river, sitting on one of the bigger rocks as they overlooked at the huge waterfall in front of them.
Zhi An gazed at Chen Hua, waiting patiently for the man to speak out. It was only a few minutes later, that the man's hoarse voice rang out.
"Well... how should I start..."
Chen Hua started telling his story. From his first life as a child, growing up and falling in love with Chen Ling, to experiencing the apocalypse and then being abandoned, next suiciding at the age of 24. Suddenly, when he woke up again, he had already returned to the past, 8 months into the apocalypse, and he retold everything he experienced without any fabrication until the present.
Somehow, it felt weird to him to share his story to someone else. It seemed as if he was exposing his most sensitive aspects to the light, waiting for the listener to decide whether or not his story was credible. Yet a part of him felt relieved, just like a heavy burden that had finally been lifted off of his chest.
"Do you know what I was thinking after the world abandoned me?"
Chen Hua's eyes were slightly red as he laughed.
He spat out each and every word, "I wanted everyone to die with me."
His friends who had betrayed him.
