Chapter 2

On the way to school, I thought about my mum. I mean, how can a fourteen year old girl be so unlucky to have a mother that is horrible to you. I didn't understand it, she was so utterly different from Aunt Tanya that sometimes I even forgot they were sisters. No matter what me or Tan told her she wouldn't get the picture and see that she was being unfair to me all the time.

Suddenly, ding, dinggg! My mobile went off. I had received a text message which had drowned my thoughts about my mum.

I stopped my journey and pulled my mobile out of the front pocket of my red rucksack. I checked it, quickly, trying not to waste any time.

One was from my best friend grace, saying:

Where r u? U r late! I am using free period to send this. Lets hope u don't get a detention. Xox

Oh great, not only am I late but I am also missing free period. I also got another text from my big sister, Rihanna, who is sixteen. (She always gets up earlier than me to get to school on time.)

The message read:

Hey sis, hurry up! I don't want you to get into trouble. Mum would be mad!! C ya!

I sighed. Okay, okay I get the picture. I am extremely late and mum will be mad. I didn't bother to text back. So I slid my LG phone back into my bag and hurried to get to school.

To make matters worse it started to pour with rain and there was even louder thunder than before. Why does life have to betray me! I never deserved this, well according to my mum I did.

Ringgg! Oh no! That was the bell; I would be late for lessons. I rummaged through my rucksack and pulled out my school time-table. I looked up Thursday. Oh great! My first lesson was English and my English teacher was Mr. Gerald. He was my worst teacher and has never had a soft spot for me. He would go barking mad if I was late! I put away my time-table and raced to school.

When I finally approached the school gates, the thunder had stopped but it was still raining. Thrusting all my force into it, I pushed, hard at the rusty, metal gates but they wouldn't budge. Hurriedly, I then pressed the big, red button on the dial next to them and automatically there was a beeping sound.

I prayed that the staff at the school office heard it. I also hoped that they would even be on duty at that very minute. But unluckily, there was no answer, nothing at all. I pressed the button a few more times. After around three minutes, there was a click and I could hear some one clearing their throat.

"Good morning." A dull voice came from the speakers on the dial. "Who may I ask am I speaking to?" I couldn't tell whether it was a man or woman talking, it was so gruff and low. But after a while of thinking, I got the result that it was a woman's voice - Ms. Rashman - the boringest lady you'll ever meet.

"It's Melanie," I talked into the miniscule microphone. I felt increasingly anxious like it were bricks gradually building up in my stomach.

"Which one?" the lifeless voice replied.

"Melanie Kindle, come on, you know me, Ms. Rashman."

"Oh yes. Come through, Melanie." The woman cleared her throat again then finally the dial buzzed and the gates creaked open.

I charged through them and into reception.

Now, even though MaybridgeSchool was the best school ever, it turned out to be quite a lazy school. The cleaners would take days to clean one classroom, if you didn't arrive to school they barely noticed... you get the picture.
