**Carina's POV**
I hear my phone ding in the bedroom, but I forgot where I left it.

I spend 3 minutes looking for my phone, which ended up being under the bed.

The text is from Andrea it reads "I dropped off some cupcakes on your doormat, I labeled half of them because they have almonds in them"

I walk over to the living room while typing "thanks"

I send the message and look over at Maya who has cupcake frosting all over her face as I look over at the bag I notice she has opened the one clearly labeled "ALMONDS" and eaten half of them.

"Maya!"

"Yeah Mama?"

"Maya, why did you eat the ones labeled almond?!"

"Because I like almonds"

"You're allergic!"

She hums and tries to grab more, I block her hand and pick her up

"We are going to the hospital because you are allergic"

She pouts as I grab shoes and socks and put them on her, I grab mine and put them on.

I grab jackets and pull her out the door and into the car.

While we're driving I say

"I need big Maya ok?"

I wait for a minute then she says

"Crap. It seemed like a good idea at the time"

"It was never a good idea Maya. I need to make sure there are never any almonds in the house"

"sorry..."

"Hey, it's not your fault. Well not all your fault, children have notoriously horrible impulse control"

"Ok"

I watch her while we're driving, when we're almost there I notice her scratching at her arms and breathing a little faster

"Are you having trouble breathing?"

"yes" she says a tad bit breathlessly, as we pull into the parking lot

I half drag her into the ER and flag down Dr. Bailey

"She's having an allergic reaction"

At that we're rushed over to a bed and Maya whimpers at the sight of the needle that is going to be stuck on her very soon.

I pull her hand over and trace a circular pattern with my thumb

She whines when she's stuck with the needle, the nurse looks over at her sympathetically.

Her breathing evens out quickly, and we stay here for a while after, a nurse comes back and says he'll send someone over to discharge us.

After ten minutes someone opens the curtains and says

"Hello, I am here to discharge you after your... allergic reaction. So if you just sign her-"

I hear "Carina" I finally look over and it's Andrea

"Andrea, hello"

"Ah hell, this is because of those cupcakes isn't it?" he says dejectedly

"Kind of, I was trying to find my phone to see what you texted-" Maya cuts in

"When I opened the door, saw the bag, clearly marked ALMONDS and proceeded to eat some. Not your fault, completely my own"

"Oh, well here are your discharge papers. You'll probably be feeling tired and stuffy the rest of the day, overall crappy. So good luck"

I sign the discharge papers and practically carry a tired Maya back to the car.

On the drive home Maya falls asleep and I get a text from Andrea saying

"I'm never bringing or giving you anything with almonds in it ever again."
