8. Gun

There's a party at the beach.

We're there.

A bunch of people start getting there and they get drinks. Kooks start arriving.
"Seriously why do they have to be here?" Kie asks.

"This is going to be interesting." I say noticing Sarah and Topper.

Sarah makes eye contact with me and I look away. I don't need any more Cameron drama.

We all drink and have fun. It starts to get dark.

One of the Kooks come up to me.
"Hey Y/n." She says.
"Hi." I say suspiciously.
"So are you a Pogue now?"
"Yeah."
"You know they're gross and poor." She says with a disgust face. I take a deep breath.

"You know you guys never gave a shit about me. Don't start acting like you care." I say.

I turn around and walk back to JJ. We continue drinking.

JJ randomly grabs my waist and starts to kiss me. I kiss him back and pull away.
"I'm not complaining, but what was that all about?" I ask.
"A guy was looking at you." He says. I smile and kiss him again.
"Well I'm all yours." He smirks.

It gets darker. I can tell Rafe is staring at me. A few of the Kooks are too.

"I'm going to give Sarah a drink." JJ says.
"Why?" Kie asks.
"Cause I don't think she drinks." JJ says.
"She does." Kie and I say at the same time. We give each other a knowing look.

"This will be quick. Nothing bad will happen." JJ says. He gets up.

He goes up to Sarah and offers it to her. I can't hear what's happening but it looks like she declined. Topper starts talking.

I get up and walk closer.
"No it's not for you. I offered it to Sarah." JJ says. He smirks at me.
"Well she doesn't want it." Topper says.
"Sarah, come on take it." JJ says.
"No!" Topper says hitting the cup making it splash in JJ's face.

JJ pushes Topper.

"Guys!" I yell not needing this today.

John B quickly jumps in.
"Come on man let's not do this." John B says.
"Dirty pogues!" Topper yells. He looks at me. "Now you're one of them too. A dirty pogue!"
"Fuck you." I say.

John B pushes him at the same time.

They start fighting. It's getting bad. They get close to the water. We all look like we want to jump in and stop this.

"Topper stop!" Sarah yells.

Topper grabs John B's head and puts it under water.
"Topper!" I yell. He doesn't move.

Sarah is yelling at him to stop.
"Control your crazy boyfriend." I yell at Sarah.

I look at JJ fear in my eyes. He's looking through his pockets.

"Topper you made your point! Let him go! You're drowning him!" I scream terrified for my friends life.

JJ stands next to him the gun to his head.

Shit.

"It's loaded." JJ says. "Let him out."

Topper let's go of John B and puts his hands up in the air. John B jumps up for air. Kie runs to his side and helps him out.

JJ shoots the air twice.
"Now get the hell off our side of the island!" He yells.

Most of the Kooks start to run out.

Rafe walks by me.

He grabs my shoulders tightly.
"You made the wrong choice." He says leaning in close to my neck. Topper stands behind him. Sarah looks at us from farther away. She looks embarrassed and scared.

"Let go of her!" JJ says walking up with the gun.

Rafe let's go of me almost pushing me.
"Asshole!" I yell.

JJ looks like he's going to hit him. I grab his arm.
"Leave." JJ says shifting his weight to his other leg.

"You're going to regret this." Rafe says turning around. "All of you." They leave.

JJ looks at me.
"You okay? Did he hurt you?"
"No." I say shocked.

JJ hugs me.

"What the hell were you thinking?!" Kie says running up to us.
"He would've drowned." JJ says.
"You could've shot someone." Pope says.
"Yeah, but I didn't." JJ says.

I look over at John B who's sitting down slightly. I walk over to him leaving them to argue.
"You okay?" I ask.
"Yeah." He says.
"He almost had you there."
"Yeah, I know."

"I hate them."
"You were one of them once right?" He asks looking at me.
"I was kinda. I was a Kook but I hated them. I used to be friends with them, but that didn't last long. Rafe scared me. Still does."

They walk over.
"What are you guys talking about?" Pope says begging for a conversation change."
"Nothing really." I say.

"What did he say to you?" Kie asks me talking about Rafe.
"He just told me I chose wrong, whatever that means and that we would regret this." I say.
"It probably means you being a pogue now." JJ says. "He doesn't seem to like that." Pope says agreeing.
"What if it's about you dating JJ." Kie says. I look at JJ. His jaw seems to lock. I grab his hand.

"I don't know. He's crazy." I say.
"Yeah." JJ says.

"We should go home." I say.
"My parents want me to go to mine." Kie says.
"Same." Pope says.

I look at JJ.
"We can stay at yours." JJ says. I nod.
"Okay get in the van, I'm getting everyone home." John B says.

We all get in. I lay on JJ shoulder the entire trip.

We get to mine.

"Wait here." I say looking at JJ. He nods.
"Yup."

I walk inside. Dad's asleep. I get to my room and open the window. JJ climbs in.

He sits down on my bed. I lay my head on his lap. He looks at me admiring me. I smile at him.

"Where did you get that? It's pretty." He says grabbing my necklace. I take it off and hand it to him to look at.

"My mom gave it to me, before she disappeared." I say.
"It looks good on you." I kiss his cheek.
"Thank you." I say.

"I'm going to change." I say. He nods.

I get out and change. I walk back in and find JJ looking at my jewelry.

I plop on my bed.
"What are you doing?"
"They're pretty." He says looking at me. I smile at him. He smiles back and hugs me.

We lay down and start to fall asleep holding each other.

"I'm not going to let anyone hurt you." He says.
"I know." I say.
