Stage Fright (Alphonse x Singer!Reader)

Start from the beginning

After a short walk back to the house, the group was standing at the front door, ready to go inside. Winry was in the middle of turning the door handle, when all of them heard it.

Singing. And it sounded good, very good to be exact. It was barely recognizable as your voice.

"I won't let anyone say, 'They died in vain', not until I become the last lone arrow on the battlefeild..." Your voice quickly jumped to the rapid lyrics of the next part. "The enemy is gruesome, we'll bring it on! The enemy is gigantic, we'll spring high!"

Winry slowly opened the door and entered unannounced. The brothers followed after her, attempting to be as quiet as possible. They peered around the doorframe of the room you were in, to view your figure dancing around the room as your voice soared.

'Wow, that girl sure can sing,' Winry said in her head. She glanced over to Al, and saw him staring at you, transfixed by your voice. She smirked.

Winry had known you loved Al for a while now, whether you told her so audibly was unimportant. She could just tell by the way you acted, eyes glowing from anticipation whenever the Elric brothers were going to visit. It was obvious you both liked each other, but were unaware of how the other felt.

"We grip two steel blades of Gloria, sing the song of victory, and have the wings of freedom on our back!" Your hips swayed slightly as you danced to the instrumental part of the song. "With our determination tightly held to our chest, we sever this ring of folly, and dance into the blue sky-- Wings of Freedom!" You smiled as your voice traveled, eyes still closed and unaware you were being watched, and you made your way around the room, feet moving freely.

Edward and Winry were no longer watching you, but instead were watching Alphonse. They both knew where this was going.

"Didn't the birds break out of their egg shell in order to fly, not to crawl on the ground pathetically? For what reason do you possess those wings? Isn't the sky in the birdcage a little too tiny?" The rhythm slowed slightly, but you were already thinking ahead to the upcoming difficult fast part. "Freedom and death. The two of them are twins. Freedom or death? Our friend is but one of them!"

The next part of the song was always the most difficult part to sing, but today you sang it perfectly. "For what reason were we born? I don't know the answer to such complicated questions. Even if our birth had been a mistake, I do know for what reason we are alive. We are alive, to live the freedom, resulting from our, undeniable existence!"

You hummed the instrumental part as you had always done before, before whispering the one line that led to the bridge of the song. "The Wings of Freedom..." Your head swayed to the beat as you anticipated the slower rhythm.

"The hidden truth will be the charging arrow, it will pierce the sealed inner layer of darkness, as well as the Titans lurking in the outer layer of light. With our previous beliefs crumbling away, even though we feel lost, let's nevertheless march towards freedom!"

There wasn't even a pause as you continued at a fast pace. "The left way? Or the right way? Well, which one is the correct one? The friend? Or the enemy? People, which one are you?" Your feet moved quickly as you spun slightly, and you whipped your head around as you sang.

"We grip the gear of our fighting spirit, sing the song of the light of hope, and have the horizon of freedom on our back. With the chains connecting this world in our chest, we play a song of what might lurk behind all possibilities. Dance into the blue sky-- Wings of freedom!" You moved both your arms and legs as you hummed the last instrumental part, ending with your head and one arm pointed upward in a finishing pose. You stood frozen like that for a few seconds, inwardly proud of yourself for singing it perfectly.

"Wow! That was so good!"

You nearly fell over as you tripped on absolutely nothing. Someone had both been listening to you while you sang, AND had watched you dance around like an idiot. And to make it even worse, it was Alphonse who had heard and watched you.

You whipped your head around as you regained your composure. You felt heat rise to your face, and it only increased in temperature when you saw that Edward and Winry were there to. It also didn't help that Winry was giving you an 'I know you like him' sort of look.

"A-Alphonse!?" You stuttered out, flustered.

"Y-yeah. Hi (Y/n)," Al replied. Unknown to you, he was actually really scared to talk to you right now, after that great performance.

"H-h-how much of th-that did you h-hear?" You asked, legs now locked up.

"Most of it, I think," he responded. Winry pushed Ed out of the room, whispering something to him. They both stared at you two, smiling, before exiting the room.

An awkward silence engulfed the room as you remained quiet. Alphonse ended up being the first to break it.

"Why don't you usually sing in front of people? You're really good at it."

That comment did not help your blush whatsoever, and your face got even redder.

"I-I just d-don't like singing in f-front of other p-people. My legs kinda freeze up, and I can't move around, and I worry I'll mess up and embarrass myself in front of everybody," your nerves started making you ramble. You were inwardly begging your mouth to stop moving before you said something you regretted. Of course, you couldn't shut up, and your fear was soon realized.

"And I've never sung in front of you because I'm scared I'm gonna mess up in front of the guy I love." You slapped both your hands over your mouth immediately. That was exactly what you had NOT wanted to say. But were your brain and mouth working together correctly in your current flustered state? No, no they were not.

Alphonse stared at you, remaining silent for a while as he processed the information he just learned. You stared wide-eyed at him, making a little squeal of distress from behind your hands. Al honestly thought it was adorable, but he was still too shocked to move.

You moved your hands and opened your mouth to say something, but then decided against it, and closed it again.

"(Y-Y/n)? Did you just say you, l-love me?" Alphonse asked gently.

You remained still for a few seconds, before you nodded your head slightly.

"E-even if I don't have a body?"

You nodded again, looking down at the ground.

Alphonse slowly walked over to you, but you kept your eyes downcast. Slowly and carefully, he wrapped his arms around you in a hug. At first you were surprised, but slowly hugged him back, closing your eyes. This was one of the reasons you loved him. He always gave great hugs, the kind that could make anyone feel better, no matter the situation.

"I love you too, (Y/n)," he whispered.

You chuckled as a thought popped into your head. Alphonse pulled back from the hug slightly and looked at you.

"What?" He questioned worriedly.

"Oh it's nothing. I just realized that now I'm probably gonna have to sing you a love song at some point," you explained with a smile.

Al laughed. "Guess that means you'll have to get over your stage fright, too." He hugged you again.

You gladly returned the hug, smiling. "Guess you're right."
