chapter twenty

"give sarah a hug for me dollface" rafe yelled, a smirk on his face, not even concerned that flora was practically carrying topper's full body weight. 

"shut the fuck up guys" topper said, allowing flora to open the door for him.

"slower" flora muttered. "i can't pull both of our body weights up the stairs" she semi-yelled to topper. "and do you really want to go speak to sarah like this, not your best look topper, you stink"

"i have to talk to her, i saw her with that pogue, you don't understand what she means to me flora, i have to make things right.

flora felt a bit of pity for the boy at that moment, she pulled herself together and gathered her strength to continue walking him up the cameron staircase. 

"hey sarah, are you awake?" topper whispered, walking into sarah's room.

no sound came out of sarah, and flora was not dumb. even if she knew topper was a good guy she would not let her asleep friend with him in a room while he was drunk. 

flora let go of topper and sat on her friend's bed. "i think she's asleep topper" flora whispered, not wanting to wake sarah up.

"no, i just want to talk to her," topper exclaimed, taking another step into the room."this is random, and i know it'll freak you out and i'll leave if you want me to." he said, getting closer to the bed.

"topper, she's asleep she is not going to answer you." flora said with a sigh while rubbing her forehead.

"okay flora, i just have to let this out. sarah, i am so sorry for making you feel claustrophobic at the midsummers party, and i don't care who you went to chapel hill with. i mean, if i did know who it is, i would put his skull to the ground." topper started confessing.

"what the hell topper,enough, get out" flora said getting up and pushing topper towards to door so he could leave.

"i don't want to break up sarah" topper exclaimed, before leaving the door.

"i can't believe you're dating this guy" flora said, removing her shoes and laying down next to her friend.

"i'm not, please do not freak out flora" she heard wheezie's voice say from the covers.

"wheezie! what are you doing in sarah's bed?" flora exclaimed with confusion.

"i'm covering for her, she didn't tell me where she was going, i did not mean for this to happen." wheezie said with a small smile.

"i'm going to get something to drink, my head is going to burst, i am so confused right now." flora said, opening the door to the kitchen.

flora was too busy texting topper to see where she was going. she felt bad that he made a whole love declaration to wheezie, and she thought he deserved the truth.

"ouch" flora heard a deep voice exclaim.

"i am so sorry rafe, shit" flora said with a smirk, she had just spilled all of her freezing cold water onto the boy, and if he had not been such an asshole towards her, she would have probably felt bad about it.

"you have always been so clumsy." rafe said rolling his eyes, removing his shirt in front of the brunette and tossing it onto the kitchen counter.

"i didn't know you would be in the kitchen." flora muttered to herself, pushing him to the side so she could go back to sarah's room.

"where are you going? " rafe asked, pulling flora by the arm, pushing her body against his. 

his body was familiar, she felt his bare muscles, but she did not want to crack, they weren't good together and even if she knew that deep down he was a good person, he always let the worst of him take over.

"i can't play these games anymore rafe, it is too hard, being this close," she said, looking into his eyes.

"they're not games to me dollface," he whispered, running his thumb over her lips.

"if you loved me, you would attempt to show the rafe i once knew, the guy i felt safe with, that i was not scared of." flora said, not breaking eye contact. " if you love me, that is how you'll prove it to me.

"i'm crazy in love with you flora, that is why i am willing to try to be better." rafe said, a look of honesty in his eyes.

"i know you're drunk rafe, it's like this conversation won't have happened tomorrow morning." flora said, running her hand through his hair.

"i know, but at least now you know that deep down, a part of me wants to get better for you," he said,leaning down to kiss her. 

flora kissed him back instantly, because even if she knew this version of rafe would be gone tomorrow, at least she had a moment with him now.
