I woke with a start, my hand instinctively going to the place where my amulet used to rest. I was confused for a moment when I didn't feel it's pulsing heartbeat, then it hit me. "It worked! The time stone actually worked!" I gasped. I looked over at my clock, which read 8:00. I frowned. Last time I went
back, during the trials, it read 6:00. But I shook it off as I got out of bed, eagerly put on my shirt and trousers, brushing my teeth, then spitting so hard that my throat hurt. I wanted to see my mom. Then I remembered that she slept in this night after her hospital shift
Never mind, I thought dejectedly,
I'll see her later. I've got to go to school anyway. Maybe I can see Claire, or...
And then I realised.
Claire barely knows me now,
I recalled miserably. I sighed and got ready to see Toby. Toby! He's alive!!! I rushed to the garage, readying my bike, and then heard an energetic voice call me.
"Jimbo, you there? We need to get to school!" I opened the garage door and rushed at Tobes excitedly, knocking him over.
"Woah!" He cried, startled, "nice to see you too, Jimbo? Now... can you please help me up? My diet's not that good with my body yet." I rolled my eyes, remembering this moment.
"You and your diet, Tobes."
"Hey, I'm trying!"
I chuckled and helped him up. He checked his watch and gasped. "Ohmygod, we're so late our children are gonna have detention!"
"If we get lucky enough to even get girlfriends," I said, still thinking of Claire. Apparently, so was Toby.
"Speaking of which, I noticed Claire has been eying recently - oof!" He was cut off by a sharp jab in the stomach
I scowled at him playfully.
"I thought your diet was working, Tobes."
"Just you wait! Soon I'll be beating Coach Lawrence in those stupid bell-rope games!" I smiled.
Same old Tobes.
