She happily hugged him back while giving me a goofy smile over his shoulder.

"Cedes talks about you a lot Mrs. Simms. Nice to finally meet you" Roddy said walking over to my mom.

"Haven't heard too much about you but nice to meet you as well" my mom said side eyeing me.

I never told my parents about Rodrick until now. Things between us were too complicated to explain.

"Dinner's ready. Sammy I made your favorite" I called out walking over to the table.

"Hmm lasagna" she said.

I nodded as we all sat around the table. After saying grace, we started to fix our plates.

"Bae you want everything or nah?" Rodrick asked.

"Yeah everything's fine babe" I said smiling at him.

Rodrick's been so attentive since we made things official.

"So Roddy, how did you and Mercedes meet?" my dad asked.

"We met in the club. She came in with her friend and right there I knew she was the baddest one in the room. I couldn't take my eyes off of her" Rodrick said making me blush.

He finished fixing my plate and sat it in front of me. By the looks on my parent's faces I knew the questions wouldn't stop any time soon.

Rodrick

I locked eyes with Cedes pops as he kept firing off questions.

"How long have you been together?" he asked.

I could feel Cedes put her hand on my knee to stop me from answering.

"For a little over a year now" she said.

"A year? Why are we just now finding out about this?" her moms said arching her brow.

"Well we were still figuring things out. We just became serious" Cedes clarified.

"Roddy what are you intentions with my daughter?" her moms asked.

A nigga was getting tired of all these fucking questions. I loved Cedes and that's all that should matter.

"I'll admit in the beginning I wasn't really too serious. I just wanted to do me. But now things are different. I love your daughter and see a future with her. I don't want to lose her" I admitted.

Mr. Simms nodded approvingly.

"How old are you?" her moms asked giving me a look.

"Twenty-two" I said confidently.

Her moms dropped her fork on her plate before shaking her head disapprovingly. Cedes caught that and stood up.

"Momma daddy Roddy and I love each other very much. Things were rocky in the beginning but everything is fine now. We also have something else to tell you" she said looking over at me.

I knew she about to tell them about the pregnancy. At this point I didn't know if it was a good idea. The last thing I needed was them stressing her. I'd be damned if we lost our baby because they ain't like me.

"Me and Roddy are expecting a baby" she smiled happily.

Sammy jumped up and ran over to Cedes. She hugged her tightly.

"I'm gonna be an auntie" she cheered.

"Congratulations baby girl" her pops said standing up and walking over to Cedes to hug her too.

I stood up and shook his hand again while he congratulated me. Sammy pulled me into a hug again too. While we all celebrating, I noticed her moms sitting down. She took a sip of wine from her glass.

"Let me talk to you for a minute baby" she said looking at Cedes.

"Okay momma" Cedes said before they left to go out into the backyard.

I didn't give a fuck if Cedes mom ain't like me. I just didn't want no stress being brought on Cedes.

"What do you do for a living?" her pops asked once we sat back down at the table.

"I own my own dispensary" I said proudly.

Despite my store being shot up, business was still booming. It took nothing for me and Trell to get the windows fixed and things cleaned up. I also didn't tell Cedes about the shooting. I didn't need her worrying especially while being pregnant.

"Really? I should stop by before heading back to North Carolina" he said shocking me.

Pops was a real one.

"Yeah man everything is on me" I offered.

"I'll take you up on that" he said.

"I'll be back."

I stood and headed upstairs to Cedes room. I had some of my stash in there. I was gon' give Cedes pops some shit to sample. I walked over to my bag noticing Cedes window was open.

"How do you know he's right for you?" I heard coming from outside.

I walked over to the window to see Cedes and her moms sitting outside.

"Momma he's amazing. He's a gentleman, a businessman, and has all of the qualities I look for in a man" Cedes said.

"I understand that but he is very young. How do you know he's ready to be a father? How do you know he's going to be around for the long run?" her moms said.

"We've been through all the turmoil already. If this wasn't meant to be. It wouldn't. Also he's already a father. He's excited to be one again. He's been so attentive" Cedes said simply.

I smiled to myself because Cedes was putting on for a nigga. I was proud to know that she valued our relationship the way she did. She was definitely down 4 Da Gang.

"What about your past pregnancies? Have you been taking care of yourself?" her moms asked.

"I'm nervous but I've been taking extra care of myself. Roddy's been taking care of me. Also the doctor said everything looks good" Cedes said.

"I'm very skeptical of this relationship but if you're happy I'm happy" her moms said. "Just know I'll be on your back when it comes to this pregnancy. I'm happy you're going to be a mother."

"Thanks momma" Cedes said before hugging her moms.

Even thought I wasn't feeling her moms, I was relieved to finally meet her family. I knew it was time for me to do the same.
