the two girls made their way towards the apartment door, knocking on it as they waited for ej to answer.
"it's okay, i got it!"
the door swung open to reveal the blonde girl standing there, nini completely forgetting that she was going to be here.
"oh...hi guys." lily said awkwardly with a nervous smile "um-wanna come in?"
"seeing as this is a party we're invited to, yes." gina snapped, taking nini by the arm and walking past the girl, who let out a breath and closed the door.
nini swallowed and looked around the living room to see ej preparing a few things and she quickly made her way towards him.
"ej-"
the boy turned around in surprise when hearing nini and raised his eyebrows "neens! hey-"
"um-can i use your bathroom? real quick?" she asked
ej frowned as he glanced at lily before sighing "neens-"
"ej, seriously. please??" she said desperately, looking at him
ej took a deep breath and nodded slowly "sure...but before you go, you should know-"
nini ignored the boy and made her way towards the bathroom as quick as she could, reaching for the handle before it opened to reveal ricky walking out
they both stood there for a few seconds, nini feeling her breath getting caught in her throat while ricky looked at her in concern
"neens?" he asked worried "are you okay?"
nini swallowed and nodded "mhm. i need the bathroom."
ricky opened his mouth "oh, yeah, okay-"
he stepped aside and she rushed past him, ricky turning to face her but getting met with the door shut in front of him.
nini exhaled deeply as she leaned her hands against the sink and forced her tears and feelings away, looking back at herself in the mirror.
"okay." she breathed quietly shaking her hands before she turned the tap on and washed her face for a few seconds.
once she felt stable enough, she opened the door and made her way back into the living room, seeing ricky and lily preparing the food and gina quickly rushed over to her
"hey, you okay?" gina asked
nini nodded "yup. i'm great." she replied "i was going to get some water, but-"
she gets cut off by the sound of a knock at the door and looked at it
"i'm gonna go answer the door." she said, making her way towards it quickly before anyone else could and opening it to greet kourtney and big red.
"hey girl!" kourtney smiled sympathetically
nini put on the same smile she's been forcing for days when she's been in public and laughed nervously "h-hey guys, how are you?"
"we're good. where's ri-"
kourtney nudges the red-head, who yells an 'ow' while nini takes a deep breath "um-he's in the kitchen. with lily!"
kourtney and big red blink a few times before nodding awkwardly, walking into the apartment before the brunette girl.
"okay, great! we're all here," ej smiled "dani's going to be here any second so-"
he gets cut off by the sound of the door and widened his eyes
"everybody hide!" he exclaimed, nini catching a glimpse of lily pulling the curly-haired boy's arm towards the couch as they crouched behind it while she sat alone behind the coffee table.
ej opened the door, seeing dani standing there with an eyebrow raised as she smiled at him
"everybody hide right?" she grinned, making ej widen his eyes before groaning
"damn it." he muttered
dani giggled as she leaned in to kiss him before ricky, big red and kourtney groaned
"okay, guys save that for later," big red pleaded, causing for dani and ej to roll their eyes playfully
"happy birthday!" the group exclaimed as they made their way towards them
"thanks guys," she smiled, hugging them each one by one as gina beamed at her
"happy birthday dani," she said
"thanks gi." dani replied kindly
ej took a deep breath and held dani's hand as gina stepped aside to let them by, nini greeting dani before she made her way towards gina
"we good?" gina asked the girl
nini took a deep breath "i don't think so, but there's not much of a choice is there?"
"nope." gina said, shaking her head as she glanced at the raven-haired boy who was laughing with his girlfriend
"yeah." nini agreed as she shook her head with a scoff "was-do you think that...the breakup with ricky was a bad idea?"
gina took a deep breath "well, i mean, i can't say it's a good idea, because - you know - you're ricky and nini." she said sheepishly, making nini look down as gina continued "but, so i think it was a bad idea to take some space for yourself while ricky was getting close to another girl? no."
"but he's right that i told him to go for this whole dating thing." nini muttered sadly, fiddling with her fingers
"yeah, but neens, you thought she was gonna be another floozy that he would be seen with in public a couple times for a week max and then never have to see again." gina reminded her
nini nodded in agreement as she leaned against the wall "i just-i just miss him." she whispered as she felt her eyes sting slightly
gina frowned "i know you do." she assured as she put her hand on the girl's shoulder "but, don't fully give up on him okay?"
nini nodded quietly "i'm trying."
"did you...write about it?" gina asked "you know it makes you feel better."
nini nodded "i wrote. a lot."
"but it didn't do anything?"
nini shook her head "nope. if anything, it just made me feel worse, since you know, the apparent love of my life is currently letting a beautiful and sweet blonde-haired girl play with his hair."
gina turned around swiftly to see lily laughing at something ricky said while she reached to touch his curls and nini swallowed, looking away.
"i suddenly need a drink." nini said, leaving the curly-haired girl and heading straight to the kitchen.
