Field Report: Berlin, 1916

*translated by Agent I. Hale, 1946

"Good soldiers are hard to come by,"

That was a warning given to me when I took command of the creation of the first network in German borders.

Good soldiers were hard to keep alive. Good soldiers were hard to make into heroes to tell the families at home about. Good soldiers didn't make good spies but they were certainly the start. I had to drill discipline into the network, named Deimos.

They were to inflict fear, take down the German army from the inside. Discord needs to be fanned and they had been charged to do so. Good spies were hard to keep in good supply. My operatives were hardly hand-selected. My operatives were rough around the edges, unsharpened. I did my best. These operatives brought their own opinions and were resistant to any change. Enyo came to feed her ambition.

Melinoë came for recognition. Networks are delicate. Networks need tending. Deimos was a destructive network. I could only stand and watch as they set fire to the carefully built web of operatives and informants.
