From Captain E. Gold's personal correspondence

Released to MI6 archives 1945.

 Dated: October 1915.

To Ezriel:

I've enclosed two letters for Sadie and Miri. Please see that they are sent to the correct camps. I don't know where they are and I have no letters from them. I suppose they are too busy. When I'm old enough, may I join the Nurse Corps like them?

I'm asking you because Miri will say no and I know that you will say yes. Please, Ez. I'm tired of being the only sibling on this side of the channel. It's lonely. And then we can all be together again.

And I don't like London anymore, anyways. The Ludoviches left for America. We rarely cross Houndsditch now, with the English being the way they are.

I've been taking Shabbat with the Bernthal family down the road. Mrs. Bernthal has been helping me with Mama.

If I do join the Nurse Corps, will you tell Miri for me?

Give Miri and Sadie my love and make sure they get the letters!!!

Love,

Amie

To Sadie:

Dear Queenie,

Your faithful lady in waiting is still waiting. I know you said you are too old for these games but I thought maybe we'd play them when you came back. Adaline said she'd never pick you to be a nurse. She wants to know where you are camped and what of war you've seen. I told her I didn't know. What regiment are you in, Sadie? I want to know so that when I'm old enough, I'll be able to join you. Don't tell Miriam, she'd be dreadfully cross. I am bored of being here. I'm bored of these same old streets.

Mama is well. I'll tell Adaline to write.

Love,

Amira

To Miri:

I don't know how you did it all. And I don't know if you'll get this letter. I told Ezriel to send it through the right places. He'll make sure it gets to you.

Miri, I don't know how you did it all. I'm trying my best but I can't seem to keep everything the way you did.

Mama asks after you. She'll come out of her fog to ask where you are. I don't know what to tell her.

Should I tell her that there is a war or would that be worse?

Our new home fighting against our old? I don't think that would help, would it?

Be safe, please. I heard about a regiment of nurses who were gassed. I'm sure you are running the other nurses with an iron fist. One look and you'll turn the soldiers to stone.

All my love,

Amie
