the flashing police lights alerted hank that the destination had been met. the group got out of the car and connor opened the creaky door to get to the crime scene. the smell of rotting flesh and dried blood caused y/n to stifle a gag. the metallic odor did have some purpose, which was leading y/n to the body. the over 19 day old body was in terrible shape. y/n crouched down next to the victim while connor hovered over her shoulder.

"the victim was carlos ortiz. he appears to have been stabbed 28 times," connor mused to himself. "twenty-seven times?" y/n expressed, putting emphasis on the syllables. the android did not share the surprise that the girl did. connor glanced to the ground and saw a splatter of blood. connor lowered its head, extended an arm out, touched the blood with two fingers, and brought the fingers to his mouth.

"oh-oh my god-" y/n gasped while connor briskly removed his fingers from his mouth. connor spoke, "it is my way of analyzing the evidence, detective l/n. i hope it doesn't bother you." y/n found herself suppressing a gag for the second time that day, and shook her head to erase the idea of tasting old blood from her head.

the ramshackle abode proves the hypothesis y/n had previously thought, this man was not the best in the world to live this. "y/n... come have a look at this," she heard hank call out to her from across the house. y/n walked over and was faced with the stench she knew all too well. stale smoke proved that this man was a consumer of red ice, the drug behind the epidemic that earned hank his stripes in the force.

"why does every case make us meet an asshole corpse?" y/n sighed. hank shot her a half sympthetic, half teasing. an eyeroll was enough for the man to move away and leave her alone. y/n decided to use her forensic and psychological skills to disect the crime scene itself. walking back to the kitchen, y/n found a space where a knife had been removed. 'yes- this must be the weapon' the detective thought. y/n continued working, the space filled with quiet murmurs and occasional steady hums from her, as the began untangling the work of the deviant android.

a keen rose from her throat as she had pieced together the information to find a motive and resulting reaction. "hank-" "lieutenant anderson-" once again, connor and y/n speak in unison. before y/n could speak any further, connor started firing off information at the lieutenant about the case. of course, this was all information she had gathered herself. being outshined was something y/n had felt before, but the sting was much more tangible when it occurred at work by an android. the feeling of incompetentcy and insecurity rose in her throat.

the investigation continued and y/n quietly watched the android work its magic on the case. early symptoms of resentment were beginning to embed themselves in y/n's chest. the deviant android was hiding in the attic, which allowed the police to arrest and bring the deviant in for questioning.

...

hank had been interrogating the deviant for hours, and the clock now read 1:27 am. y/n let a sigh after hank let out a loud "for fucks sake!" hank stormed out of the small room after having no luck with the deviant. connor was also in the room behind the one sided glass, and he had been playing with that quarter he kept with him. if you hadn't been humiliated by it, you would have thought the quirk was a little cute.

"hank, i think it is time to give me a try," y/n stated with conviction. pride would not allow her to fail anymore on this mission. "detective, i am not so sure if-" connor spoke up, but was quickly interrupted by hank, who held a hand up to the robot, allowing y/n to do her favorite part of the job.

y/n knew that a more gentle presence would allow for an opening for the deviant to confess to its crimes. y/n entered the room, attempting to appear small and unintimidating, while also lacking fear for the android. she gently sat down at the table. setting her hands gingerly on the table.

"hello sir. my name is detective y/n l/n. you have not complied with any of our other officers, so i wanted to come in to see you. do you think you could give me your name?"
as y/n finished her opening speech, the deviant said nothing. despite this, she saw a softening on its face. the girl was determined to use this opening to get what she wanted.

"i know carlos hurt you," y/n's eyes scanned its arm that had been hit with the bat, and then noticed the burns from cigarettes. she continued, "oh... it appears the damage was deeper than i knew. i am sorry you had to go through that." another twitch in the face of the robot, this time above its right eyebrow. she needed to touch him, to make a physical connection.

"i know you may not believe me, but i know how you feel. i have been hurt by people before, and i know that being in that household must have been awful for you. can you please give me some information so we can help these kinds of incidents cease?" she began to gently plead, reaching out to touch the scarring from the cigarettes, "i know it must be difficult to trust a human. but-" as she touched his arm, a cry ripped from its throat. it began to shake and grabbed her hand

"y/n... he hurt me every day... do you know what thats like? to ache and ache with no promise of resolution? to be enslaved with no chance of salvation? i was kind for years and i never said a word. he would always smoke and drink and consume that- that red ice. one day i just, i just couldn't do it. one day i just... i just..." the yelling from the android decrescendoed into a whisper. without warning, the deviant stared straight ahead at the woman.

"y/n. goodbye..." he whispered. the deviant began violently slamming its head against the table without letting go of y/n's hand. a scream erupted from her throat as she watched him attempt to self destruct. officers, including connor and hank bursted through the door. "deviant. i am connor. i am an android as well. let her go and stop this." connor challenged the other android. sensing a way out, the deviant grabed a cop, took their gun, and held it up to y/n's head. she whimpered, but maintained eye contact with the machine.

"this violence won't stop the cycle of abuse. please, don't kill those who are willing to empathize with you, it defies logic and will not get you anywhere closer to freedom." y/n begged. her words seemed to echo within the armed robot. with a nod showing resolve, he made a single fluid motion, shooting connor in the head, and then himself.

y/n found herself screaming again. the robot died holding her hand, and she watched him plummet to the floor. she turned around to see connor, blue blood staining his forhead, as well as the space of the wall where he stood. a gasp removed itself from y/n's throat.

"i- i tried to save him, but i..
two androids are gone after today." y/n whispered, "i held its hand... its gone..."

the officers and hank removed themselves from the room, but not without hank placing a steady and comforting hand on her shoulder.

y/n was left alone in the room. her uniform was stained with blue blood, and she felt the weight of the abused android on her shoulder.
