Chapter 4: "It's Always Been WICKED"

Start from the beginning

"Y/n!" He gasped while rushing to pull me into a hug, I immediately hug him back and look towards the passageway he came through, a part of me hoped that Newt would soon appear. But I know that he was back in the room and I would just have to be patient.

Thomas finally pulls away and looks to Aris, "We don't have all day!" I roll my eyes and we begin to follow Aris through the vents.

It's quiet for a moment, nothing but the shuffling sound of our feet. That is until Thomas asks, "Where's Teresa? Is she okay?" I look at him over my shoulder, "I don't know Thomas. Janson took me away from her before I made my escape, so I don't know."

"Janson? Why did-" Thomas begins to question, but Aris shushes the both of us as he hovers over another vent. This one being much larger compared to others.

"This is it," Aris begins, "And we have to be quick."

Aris opens the vent and peers down into the hallway, "It's clear." Thomas wastes no time in jumping down himself, I follow after him, and then Aris jumps down last while closing the vent. Thomas takes out a keycard and slides it into the small machine, I choose to not even question where he got it from.

The room was dark, but soon lit up with blue lights. Lab coats hung against the wall and another set of doors stood at the other end of the room. A sudden feeling of deja vu begins to settle, I do my best to not think about it.

"Y/n..." Thomas says, and I look over to see a window that I hadn't noticed before. I move to Thomas' side, looking through the window. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Curled up inside of liquid-filled tanks are dozens of baby grievers. I'm convinced that I stopped breathing for a moment, and that feeling of deja vu keeps getting stronger and stronger.

The next set of doors open and we don't even make it that far before stopping in our tracks. "What the..." Thomas trails off at the sight in front of us.

Strapped to machines, hanging down from the ceiling, are thousands of unconscious people. The three of us slowly walk through them, trying to take it in as slowly as possible. I was able to get a closer look at one of the people strapped to the machine, it seemed like WICKED was taking their blood and turning it into some sort of unknown substance.

"Teresa?" Thomas suddenly blurts out, and I hurriedly follow him to an unconscious girl. But when we a closer look and her hair is moved from her face, I knew it wasn't Teresa.

"It's Rachel." Aris explains from behind us, "They took her the first night. I told her it was going to be okay." During this moment, all I wanted to do was hug Aris. Just to comfort him and stray him away from the thought of his unconscious friend.

Suddenly, we hear the faint sound of the first doors opening with talking following behind it. Frozen in place, we listen as the talking gets louder, and when the second doors open we scatter.

Aris and I hide towards the wall behind some boxes, Thomas hides behind a pillar that's closer to the middle of the room. I settle myself behind one of the boxes and watch as two men walk in. One of them being Janson.

"Are you sure this can't wait?" Janson asks the man next to him, and the man responds with, "She was very specific, sir. She wanted to speak with you personally."

"As if I don't have enough to deal with." Janson remarks, and the two men come to a stop in the middle of the room. "Just bear with me. I'm getting some interference from the storm."

I peer my head out from behind the box and watch closely. Then out of nowhere, a holographic line appears in front of the two men, quickly changing into a large screen.
