Patrick kissed Vera softly. The kiss was tender and delicate. It was moving smoothly as Patrick wanted it. Vera was stunned by everything that was happening at that moment. Something told her it was fine but it was overpowered by her doubt. "I...I can't do this.." Patrick pulled away from Vera. Vera straightened herself a bit and stood up. "The food is gonna get cold if we keep messing around." She says.
Suddenly the doorbell rang.

"Who's at the door?" Patrick questioned.

"I don't know.." Vera replied. Vera walked towards the door and opened it.

It was Renn.

"Hey Vera, I got you some flowers," Renn said with a smile. Vera grinned and grabbed them.

"Thank you Renn that's so sweet of you. I'll put them in the vase right away. Please come in, me and Patrick were about to eat."

"What's up Patrick."

Patrick glared at Renn and walked to the table. "You can come to eat with us if you'll like hehe," Vera suggested.

"I would love to, but I have to get going. My mom is here and I was gonna spend time with her. Maybe another time."

"Sure sure," Vera says glowingly.  Patrick frowned. He noticed that sure. Vera was flattered and getting nervous. "I'll see you around okay?"

"Okay, Vera."

Renn left, leaving a smiling Vera.

"You seem awfully happy." Patrick snickered.

"Oh hush, it's just that Renn is a nice guy and he gave me flowers an-"

"You like him don't you." Vera rolled her eyes and put the flowers in a vase. "You're not denying it so I guess that's a yes?"

"I don't like Renn, Patrick. I like someone else. Renn is just a friend, a close one too. So please, don't ever say that again." Vera declared.

"Listen I don't care if you like Renn or not-"

"I DON'T LIKE HIM,"  Vera shouted. Patrick felt the sting of her voice vibrate through his body. He looked down at the ground not wanting to make eye contact. Vera sat at the table and started eating.

Patrick was just playing with his food thinking about Vera and Renn. Vera in the past said that Renn was a close friend from college. He could he be more than what Vera says to him? "Your food it's gonna get cold if you keep staring at it like it's poisonous." Vera chuckled. Patrick gave an awkward grin and started eating.

It was silent between the two. All you could hear was the clanking of the silverware against the bowl; the wine glasses plopping down onto the table and off as well. They didn't say a word towards each other the whole time. Vera was humming as she ate her food and Patrick tapped his foot hearing the soft music Vera put on earlier.

"Vera."

"Hm? Yes?"

"About the kiss-"

"I don't want to talk about it." Vera interrupted.

"Oh come on Vera, you're gonna sit here and tell me you don't want to talk about something that has to mean something." Patrick declared.

"That kiss didn't mean anything. We were just caught in the moment looking at the stars and the moon. Then your ass kissed me out of nowhere."

"Oh, so you're saying it's my fault!?" Patrick asked angrily.

"Yes, actually it is your fault!" Vera shot back. Patrick got up making the table move. Vera's wine spilled and splashed on her dress.

"I'm so sorry Vera-"

Vera stood up and ran upstairs to her room heated.
