"Hi, June."
Ngumiti ako kay Rave nang batiin n'ya ako matapos makasalubong sa hallway. I've been used to it now because he always greets me whenever he sees me---like he's so fond of me. Gano'n kasi ako sa mga bata sa tuwing may bumibisita sa bahay namin at dala nila ang mga anak nila.
Is he fond of me? Because the way he smiles when he sees me is the smile I also give whenever I see children or babies.
'Yon ang nasa isipan ko nang mag-break time. Bumibili ako sa isang stall ng milk drink na paborito kong iniinom. Hindi ko kasama si Louisa dahil naka-upo s'ya sa table na nakuha namin kanina at nagbabantay para hindi kami maagawan ng puwesto.
She told me to buy for her instead kaya naman naghihintay lang ako sa pila para makabili.
"June."
I feel like I've grown accustomed to his voice already. My name sounds different in his voice. Iniisip ko kung dahil ba 'yon sa lalim ng boses n'ya o dahil sa tono no'ng halatang natutuwa.
I looked at Rave and I couldn't help the small smile that appeared on my lips when I saw him. His eyes are glowing and I can see the dimples on both of his cheeks.
"Uy," I stuttered because I was unsure of how I should greet him.
"Ano'ng bibilhin mo?" He asked as he stood by my side.
I told him that I'm buying a strawberry-flavored milk drink.
"You like that?"
Tumango ako. "Ikaw?"
"Ita-try ko 'yong bibilhin mo," he grinned.
"Okay," I smiled at him and looked ahead.
Nang kami na ang bibili, sinabi ko na ang sa akin at gano'n din si Rave. He bought a couple of bar chocolates too.
Nang maka-alis na kami sa stall, akala ko, tuluyan na kaming maghihiwalay pero tinawag ulit ni Rave ang atensyon ko.
I looked at him and waited for what he has to say. Nang inabot n'ya sa akin ang isa sa mga chocolate na hawak n'ya, lalo akong nakaramdam ng pagtataka.
"Ito 'yung bibilhin ko. I like this brand. I want you to try it," he grinned at me before he raised his other hand which was holding the box of milk drink I recommended him, showing it to me. "I'll try this because you liked it. Ikaw din, try this."
I hesitantly took the chocolate from him and thanked him. Ngumiti si Rave at kumaway sa akin at nagpaalam na mauuna nang bumalik sa classroom.
