"CASSIE!"

Remus yelled, running towards his goddaughter and her best friend. On sighting her petit figure, he immediately began rambling.

"You were right," he panted, gasping for breath, "About everything," he placed his hands on his knees, steadying himself. "I saw . . . right now the map . . . Peter,"

Cassie and Fred stared at Remus with a perplexed look. Fred was still on his knee, holding Cassie's hand, watching Remus mumble something coherently when the teacher suddenly pointed to him saying, "Brilliant job, by the way,"

Fred was taken aback. He cocked his head on the side and furrowed his eyebrow, confused over what the professor could be complimenting him about.

"Merlin, I haven't run in such a long time. I've not run in this form for over a decade – oh Merlin," he gasped, holding his back, desperately trying to regain his breath rate.

"Wait, what are you doing?" Remus suddenly exclaimed, noticing the way the two students in front of him stood. Cassie and Fred turned to each other and realised they were still holding hands and Fred looked like he was asking for her hand in marriage or something. Wide-eyed, the two of them scrambled away from each other, turning into a shade of bright red saying in chorus, "Nothing,"

Remus raised his eyebrow, knowing all too well it wasn't nothing. Yet he pushed the matter aside and said, "Cassie, you need to come with me. Now,"

Cassie nodded, on seeing the urgency and secrecy written all across Remus's face.

"I guess I need to go," she told Fred, turning to face him.

"Best of luck or I hope you're safe?" Fred replied, not knowing how to respond to her.

Cassie smirked, shaking her head before bouncing on her heels to plant a small kiss on his cheek, mumbling "You're adorable," leaving a flutter of butterflies in his stomach. Godric, he really liked that Black.

Remus stood a few meters away, watching the two – he was reminded so much of Julia and Sirius at the sheer sight of them that he couldn't help but let out a smile. "Come on," he ushered softly, waving Cassie over, who sprinted towards him. Together, they ran towards the Whoomping Willow, Cassie already knowing where this was headed.

"Who did you see on the map?" she asked as Remus tried to push down the knot using a levitating rock.

"Pettigrew,"

"Tell me, Remus," Cassie began, her nostril's flaring at the sound of the perpetrator's name.

"Mhmm?" he hummed, busy concentrating on the rock.

"Would you be mad at me if I used an unforgivable curse today?"

Remus whirled around – coincidently dropping the stone on the knot, making the branches stop – and looked at Cassie with an unreadable expression.

"Just asking," Cassie shrugged and ran into the gap in the roots. She began crawling, Remus trailing behind her.

"So, Pettigrew was alive all along?" Remus asked, breaking the silence between them.

"Yes, but I only got to know of this after Christmas," Cassie responded, standing up and brushing the dirt off her uniform after sliding down from the earthy slope.

"I'm sorry Cassie," Remus apologised, as Cassie helped him up.

"I'm glad you understood your mistake,"

"I did, and I will do anything to make it up to you," he promised sincerely.

"Why don't we start with killing the person who is responsible for our current state," Cassie responded with a straight face earning a stern nod from Remus before they ran towards the Shrieking Shack.
