3rd Person POV

The room shakes and rumbles as Hope sits up in her sleep, her hands in the formation of a spell. Cleo takes cover behind her bed. "Hope? Hope? Hope!" She yells. The rumblings gets louder and wind swirls around the room. "Hope, stop!"

Hope's eyes snap open and everything stops. "Sorry." She tells Cleo. "I guess I was dreaming."

"About murdering me with a tornado?" Cleo asks

"No." Hope says, looking around the room

The door bursts open and Sadie runs into the room wearing sweatpants and a hoodie. "Are you okay?" She questions, rushing over to Hope and sitting on the bed. "Let me see your eyes. I need to see that you're awake." She says, snapping her fingers in front of Hope's face to get her attention

"I'm awake." Hope tells her, pushing Sadie's hand out of the way

"I guess this is something that happens often?" Cleo asks

"Yes." Hope and Sadie respond at the same time

"I should have been given a pamphlet before I signed up to live with you." Cleo says, sitting on her bed and facing the girls

Hope and Sadie look over at Cleo. "Oh, this doesn't happen often for me." Hope says

"It's happened twice now." Sadie points out

"That's not often." Hope says. "Sadie has a lot of nightmares."

"When I had my magic, things like this would happen in my room too." Sadie explains, looking around at the messy room. "Now that I don't...well, nothing flies around the room..."

"But..." Hope starts. "I always check to see if her eyes are still dreaming. Can't pull anyone out of a nightmare if you don't know they're in a nightmare." She says

"What was your dream about?" Cleo asks

"I think Landon was trying to send me a message, but something wouldn't let him." Hope says

"What sort of message?" Cleo asks

"That he's alive." Hope whispers, looking at the two girls

***

Hope, Sadie, and Lizzie are in Landon's room drawing with chalk on the floor

"I understand why you want to go charging into Mordor, but we don't even know if Frodo is still alive." Lizzie tells Hope as the three draw on the floor

"If you don't want to be a part of the Fellowship, there's the door." Hope tells Lizzie

"I promised my dad that I would help you and be your supernatural fact-checker, but I want you to manage your expectations, Hope." Lizzie tells her, standing up. "I know you, and you'll keep looking whether we find proof or not."

"I'll burn that bridge once I come to it." Hope says, standing up as well and leaving Sadie to continue drawing on the floor

"That's what I'm afraid of." Lizzie says

"Afraid of what, exactly?" Josie asks from the doorway and the three look over

"None of your business." Lizzie tells her. "Aren't you late for class?"

"Uh, I was just looking for my chemistry textbook." Josie says. "Could've swore I left it here, so..."

"Oh, yeah, in Landon's room." Lizzie says. "Nice try, Nosey Josie."

"Fine. I heard about the ascendant." Josie says. "You're clearly doing a spell, Sadie's drawing on the floor. And if it's about Landon, I mean, I can help."
