4.3| The Vicious Zombie King Chen Hua

Start from the beginning

Chen Hua's pair of black pupils glinted in the shadow as streaks of madness overtake his sanity.

I have no grudge against you, human. Chen Hua mused in his heart. But my past experiences tell me that I should kill you to avoid any future mishaps.

Blame fate that has brought you over to me.

As his sharp nails descended, Chen Hua's killing intent thickened. His lips voiced a silent word.

Die.

But the bloody scene that he expected never came, instead a voice full of happiness and a gaze full of trust came into his view.

"Oh! A fellow survivor!" The young human turned his face around at this conjecture time.

The cool voice that was void of any malice jolted Chen Hua into a stupor. His killing intent diffused as quickly as a dying flame.

Chen Hua instinctively retracted his sharp nails. His eyes that were blazed with hunger now only remained tranquil.

"I didn't know that there really is a survivor in this city!" The young man shouted in fervor. It seemed that meeting a fellow human after a long time rekindled his enthusiasm once again.

"It's been a week since I've met a fellow human. You don't know how devastated I am to be surrounded by zombies all day long!" The young man started chattering.

The young man who was in fact Zhi An, lied with a pair of innocent eyes. All the words that spilled out of his mouth were made to evoke sympathy from the Zombie King.

But he doubted if it really works.

To kill at first sight... the Zombie King has really shed all his humanity away.

Just how am I supposed to provide him happiness when I doubt that he has any emotions at all.

But really..., Zhi An winced, I wouldn't know he's a zombie if the system didn't tell me.

With hair as dark as the night sky, and eyes like deep pools in a well, Chen Hua really looked like a handsome man. Zhi An could faintly see the man's firm muscles hiding underneath his tattered piece of clothing. One wouldn't associate him with those revolting zombies at all, let alone the possibility of him being the Zombie King.

"By the way, why are you here alone? You must be strong to be able to survive alone so far!" Zhi An looked at the Zombie King with a pair of sparkling eyes.

Chen Hua looked down on the young man who was a head shorter than he was. The frown on his forehead turned deeper, his eyes watching the human's unusual gestures and expressions.

Are humans supposed to be this... lively? The Zombie King seemed to forget his days of being a human after spending two lifetimes as a zombie.

Well.. this type of person suits me better than those who kept their thoughts in the dark. Chen Hua chuckled inwardly. He could immediately guess the young man's thoughts through that pair of clear eyes.

"Oh, my friends died." Chen Hua's tone was as flat as a board. Normal people would have noticed something wrong in his response, but Zhi An was never 'normal'.

"Oh.. I'm so sorry! It must've been those zombies who killed them. You must have a hard time surviving alone..." Zhi An shed a few fake tears as he patted the man's shoulders in an attempt to console him.

The zombie king was dumbfounded.

Is my acting that good...?

"Errr... yes, I've been grieving for a week now."

"Oh, god! I'm so sorry for bringing up their deaths when you still haven't healed emotionally..."

Damn.. my acting must be good for even the zombie king to believe my bullshit.

"Y-yes... I was about to be bitten by a zombie when one of my friends jumped in to save me. In return... he died." The Zombie King tried hard to put a sorrowful expression on, the gears in his mind turned continuously to make up some kind of believable scenario.

"Oh god! Bless that poor soul."

Mhm. My acting must be good. A sense of satisfaction rose up in Chen Hua's heart.

Ha.. what a stupid prick. Zhi An grinned in a mocking manner inwardly. Your acting skills need to be more polished! Learn from this grandpa alright?

These two men continuously banter on this meaningless charade. This lasted for a few minutes, until Zhi An couldn't hold it in any longer.

"Um, hey. I think we should discuss each of our plans instead of getting hung up on your friends' deaths." Zhi An smiled but cried inwardly.

Please please please move on from this topic! I literally cannot cry any further; my tear glands ran out!

"Are... are you saying that the deaths of my loved ones are not worth getting hung up on?!"

Zhi An could see tears brimming in Chen Hua's face. An incredulous expression almost surfaced on Zhi An's face before it was curbed down with an expression of sympathy.

"N-no.. that was not what I was saying...."

Fuck you, zombie lord!

Your friends didn't even die! They fucking betrayed you and feed you to the zombies!

Why the fuck are you so hung up on your enemies?!

Zi Gang could one day see himself crying a pool of bloody tears. He couldn't imagine spending a whole day with this irritating and annoying person. He would've left if not for the mission.

Oh my poor health, I'm probably gonna die young because of him.

~

It was fun.

That's what Chen Hua felt when he conversed with this lively human being.

It's been a while since he felt this way.

It probably used to occur back when he was still a human being. But he had long forgotten what that felt like.

Being betrayed countless times by the people close to him had long turned his warm heart cold.

But teasing this human whose thoughts were like an open book, where there was no danger lurking in the shadows, really eased him and let his guard down.

Talking to this human was really, really fun.

Maybe, just maybe... He can let him live a little while longer.

Ding! [Progress bar: 5%. Continue to work hard.]
