empathy keeps me there
rejection snaps me in two
and the pain keeps me away,
but sympathy draws me back in
and empathy tries to keep me there,
but that lingering feeling...
that awareness of the one-sided
unmatched
unrequited
energy & care,
steers me clear.
falling for the cycle again,
but next time not changing course,
is what I truly fear.
