After Thomas and Denise's
trip to France
the days
swiftly passed me in stride
and
I began to notice
other things
about Thomas
The way
he would
not speak unless he had to
not play the way he used to
not make any jokes, even when we prompted him to
always have his head in the clouds
Philipp the Kapitän
and Pep Guardiola
look at Thomas
with something-
pity
sadness
sympathy-
in their eyes
I asked Philipp "Why?"
why was our Kapitäin
looking at Thomas
with that kind of emotion
in his eyes
of course,
Philipp wouldn't say
but
by the end of the day,
I could tell why.
Because, I, too,
had experienced what Thomas was feeling
the truth was, I still was feeling
what Thomas was feeling
Because what Thomas was feeling
was being heartbroken.
Heartbroken
