"Hey! What—"

He was cut off by me slamming into him and causing us both to tumble to the ground. We rolled, him fighting for control over my movements and me trying to hold him down. He was too strong though, and in no time I was thrown off of him.

He pushed himself to his feet, and I stumbled into an upright position as well. I locked eyes with him, and I could see the realization flow through him. He took a defensive position and made a small movement with his hand, egging me on.

I leapt at him again, my knife poised to attack him. Instead, he ducked under my outstretched arm and punched it, causing the weapon to fall out of my hand for the second time that day.

I bent over with a gasp when he threw another punch into my stomach. I acknowledged that he was a lot stronger than I was, and he was clearly capable of beating me. Unluckily for him, I had brought Skylar and Jadis with me.

All three of us surrounded him, but he still somehow held all of us off. In fact, he seemed to be winning. It was clear he had been well taught and was trained to fight, because he knew many tricks and movements that left us confused and annoyed.

"What do you guys want?" he inquired as he kicked Jadis's legs out from beneath her.

"What do you think?" I shot back, furious. I tried to punch him, but he blocked the movement with his forearm. "You killed my companions!"

He hesitated, obviously confused. "What? I've never seen any of you before."

Skylar tried to lash out with her dagger, but the human unarmed her and pushed her to the ground. The image of the rebel standing over one of my guards, in a position to kill her, made my fear spike and I lashed out with my mind.

I knew it was wrong and against everything I was taught, but I wasn't thinking clearly. All I knew was that when I reached out with my mind, I established a link between the human and myself. I recoiled slightly when I felt it snap in place. The connection felt wrong and unsettling.

Humans weren't able to use their minds to communicate, and that meant the strength of their minds were fairly weak. However, that didn't mean a Zucarian couldn't still establish a link with the humans. It would just be incredibly painful for them.

What I was doing right now definitely broke a few of the laws we had on Zucar that made this action illegal for my people to do. The thing was, I wasn't on Zucar, I was on Earth. I felt no guilt in what I was doing. In my mind, the human deserved it.

I watched coldly as he stiffened and his mouth fell open. He collapsed, tumbling to the ground and smacking his head on the soft grass. He curled up in a ball with his hands gripping his head, screaming in agony. His body shook violently and my two remaining guards looked on in horror.

Their reaction was what I expected. This was something that had only been attempted once, years ago, and was now banned. I was sure that when the shock wore off, they would be more willing to accept it.

As I looked on at the Earthling's shaking and heard his horrible screams, I couldn't stop a smile from spreading across my face. This was revenge for Lorelei, Aiden, and Atticus. It was revenge for every other Zucarian who had been murdered by his kind.

"Zara!" I heard the yell, but I barely noticed or acknowledged it. It was only when I felt hands touch me and pull me backwards that my anger snapped.

"WHO WOULD DARE LAY THEIR HANDS ON ME?" I roared, my eyes searching for the offender as I regained my balance from the hard yank.

"I would. Get your fucking mind away from him."
