I anxiously tap on the wheel of my car. I've been sitting in the parking lot of Morgan and Hayes for a good ten minutes, trying to muster the courage to get out and face my fear. Gabriel's assistant called me this morning and said that Gabriel would like to see me but would not tell me why. I'm assuming Gabriel has brought the partners in to bear witness to him firing me. I've fought demons, and yet I'm afraid to go face a mere mortal.

"You know sitting here will just prolong the torture."

I quickly turn and see God in the passenger seat, casually assessing me.

"You know it's not my fault," I tell her.

"What isn't your fault?"

"I made the right decision. I chose my cousins. I did the right thing. So why am I being punished?"

"Who says you're being punished?"

"Gabriel was not happy with me leaving, and he made that clear that if I walked out, my job would be at risk. It's not fair."

"You made the right decision. Life isn't concerned about right or wrong, however." She shrugs.

"Then shouldn't you change that?"

She sighs and shakes her head. "You and everyone else have free will to make your own choices. As much as you all blame me for whatever goes wrong in your life, it's often out of my control.  If I tell you to choose your cousins, you lose your job. If I tell you to choose your job, you lose your cousins. Then you will blame me, even though you were aware of the consequences of each decision. That's why I leave it up to you to decide, so regardless of what happens, it was your choice and no one else's. I can guide you, Ambrose, but it is you who ultimately makes the final decision."

"So what should I do now then?" I ask desperately for some guidance.

"You should walk in and face him. You don't actually know why he is asking for you, only an assumption. There's a still a chance you still have your job."

I turn and look down at my lap. I unconsciously bite my lip, "And if he fires me? What do I do? I really love this job, and there's nothing else I want to do besides being a witch. But that doesn't pay the bills."

She grabs my hand and gives it a tight squeeze. "The future is never set in stone. It's a river constantly flowing from one path to the next. Even as a God, I can't tell you what exactly is going to happen, only that it's probably not as bad as you're thinking. Now chin up," she forces my head up and levels my eyes with hers, "you're a Maverick and a Halliwell. You don't run from danger. You run to it."

I nod and reach over to hug her. "Thank you."

I eventually leave God in my car and head to the front entrance. I show security my badge and head up to the 8th floor. I tap my hand against my thigh, listening to the elevator music. The doors open, and the receptionist for the floor quickly glances up. She must have noticed my badge because she says good morning and goes back to whatever she was doing. I head in the direction of Gabriel's office. Some desk workers glance up at me, curious to see who I am and where I'm going. I reach Gabriel's door and lightly knock.

"Come in." I hear him say from inside.

I open the door and close it behind me. I see Gabriel at his wide office window staring down at the city with his back to me. He glances at me, "Have a seat, Mr. Maverick."
