Ryan's POV
“They really wanna see you” Chloe says
“I don’t give a damn what they want” I grit through my teeth
“Ryan, there our friends and—”
“Chloe please I don’t want them to see me like this”
“Like what?”
“Weak” I whisper
“Ryan the only person who sees you like that is you”
I want to touch her face to tuck a piece of her hair behind her ear but I can’t feel my arms or anything below my neck the doctor says my neck is broken they don’t know the extent of my damage my body still might me in shock the doctor are going to run some x-rays on me today.
Chloe and my family are the only people allowed to see me I don’t want my friend seeing me like this. I’m filled with too much pride to let them see me so helpless.
“As much as I don’t want to admit this your girlfriend is really worried about you it’s obvious she really cares for you so at least talk to her on the phone for a minute or two.
“Okay”
“So what’s her number?” Chloe asks smiling
“035-453-8701”
Chloe dials the number on her phone then presses it to my ear holding it in place for me
“Hello, who is this?” Annie asks
“It’s me” I say clearing my throat
“Ryan” she breathes “I’m so happy to hear your voice you don’t even know”
I laugh “How are you?”
“How am I? No how are you? Please let me see you” she begs
“Anastasia, do me a favor?”
“Anything”
“Tell everyone to go home”
“Ry, we’re not leaving”
“You guys have school tomorrow”
“So we come back on lunch break and after school”
“Aren’t you guys tired of eating hospital food?”
“Nope”
“Annie--”
“It’s so nice to hear you call me that” she whispers
My eyes flicker to Chloe standing over me
“I need to go…”
“I love you, Ryan”
My heart broken in two when she said that because I know she means the question is do I love her the way she loves me.
“I love you, too” I say feeling horrible for saying that in front of Chloe
She hangs up the phone “So you love her?”
“What’s it matter to you?” I ask
“It doesn’t but we’re friends so you can tell me…”
“What was I suppose to say?”
She shrugs “Hell if I know”
The door swings open five nurses come in plus my doctor “It’s time for those x-rays” Dr. Mumford says
The five nurses pick me up and place me on a gurney “You ready?” of the nurses asks
“Yes”
