Merit

Making merit is an important Buddhist practice. It brings good karma and may determine the quality of the next life you'd be living when you are reborn. It contributes as well in the growth of a person and their path towards enlightenment. The purpose of the act may have changed through times but it remains to be an essential even through modernization. 

Merit-making were part of rituals, daily and weekly practice, and festivals or celebrations. It was a widespread custom also to transfer good karma to a deceased relative in order to help them out with their rebirth, hoping that they will be reborn in the good realms rather than in the evil realms. 

The power of merit is a beneficial and protective force that accumulates from good deeds, acts or thoughts. It acts as a shield from possible demerits. If one had committed a bad deed in their lifetime, they must atone for it and make merit on the current one to diminish the effect of bad karma on the next life. 

Today, the cheering team are making merit to ask for blessings that their performance would go without a hitch as they have practiced tediously throughout the past months. Praying that their hard work won't go to waste. They are welcoming the new semester and performing to awe the freshmen in their university. 

This is also to convey their prayer to remain as one of the top cheerleading team in Thailand, hoping that they'd be picked as representatives for the International Cheerleading Competition. Their prayers may be considered materialistic but it was a hopeful one with pure and good intentions. They are part of a generation after all that has high hopes and dreams for their future just as the past and the upcoming ones.

Their performance had already began and everyone's hyped up along with the beat of the cheering crowd. Everyone went into position and the show started to roll. The squad simultaneously somersaulted and executed what they practiced, displaying their undeniable talents and flexibility.

The bases then carried three of the girls and held them in three pyramids. Spotters watched carefully as the flyers were thrown into the air, getting ready to act fast in case something goes wrong in the routine. Luckily, the flyers landed safely with the help of their bases and the crowd once again went wild with the heart stopping performance. 

After a dramatic exit, the whole team headed out of the gym to be greeted by their adoring fans and the school publication who were only there to sensationalize the pairings of their group. They didn't mind at all the intrusion of their school mass media on their personal lives since they fairly believe that publicity would help them reach their goal. To be popular.
