Rex's POV:
I barked in greeting as soon as I saw Lucy.
I recognized her no matter what she wore.
I often pondered why humans felt the need to change their fur so much.
I saw him.
I could tell Lucy was not thrilled to see him.
I sat protectively at her feet.
I growled at the boy.
Maybe, then he would take the hint.
I sure hoped so anyway.
I knew it was for the best.
I could not let Lucy get hurt.
I was unable to stop her from the grief when her grandmother died last summer.
I could not keep the taxi from crushing her best friend beneath it.
I was a dog, but even I had my limitations.
I glared at him.
I growled, scowled, and barked some more.
I lifted a paw into the air to show him who was boss.
I saw him drop some scraps in front of me.
I wagged my tail.
I whined, but I did not eat it.
No way, would I betray her, for a foe like Morgan Bryant.
