The Toss of a Coin

Chapter 7

Aurelia met up with Aislinn and Callie at about six thirty three, “You’re late Rei.” 

“By like three minutes-” “That’s still late Rei.” Callie started shaking her head and said, “You know how Aislinn is about this it’s best not to fight her.” and with that they all walked home.

Somewhere in town, in an abandoned building filled with all kinds of technological equipment a group of people were preparing for something big. As they completed an important video and were ready to upload.

“I want to let you all know I appreciate everything you have done to help us achieve our goal,” one man told the people operating the computers, “And I hope you know that your efforts will be keen in helping us achieve peace and victory in our crusade.”

Everyone around him began to applaud as he said this and prepared for what was to come.

The man was standing by a computer guy as he said, “With this we will begin our regime to ensure true peace in the world; and it all starts with one video…” he trails off pointing to the massive screen as the video he was referring to is then uploaded publicly for the entire world to see. With that the entire room then stood up as they cheered for what they had accomplished.

As the man watches as the video is released into the world he only has one thought on his mind, ‘Your days of hiding are over as we speak, monsters.'

About halfway home the three girls were stopped when they overheard people gasping and whispering about something on their phones. “Oh, did another celebrity couple break up again?” Aurelia said and caused Aislinn to giggle but then all three got notifications on their phones and when they opened they made a discovery that could destroy their entire lives.

Luna was finishing up repair on a car engine and about to head out when she overheard the tv and the news discussing a video recently posted to the internet.

She thought nothing of it until she heard the words, ‘proven existence of supernatural beings’ leave the news anchor's mouth. At that very moment she turned to the screen and bore witness to something that could very well destroy everything in her, her friends, and their families lives.

Eve walked out of her room to get some water, completely void of any emotion. 

It was only natural for her as when she fell victim to her natural blood lust she found it hard to think of herself as anything other than the dangerous predator she was. Something she as well as others of her kind very often struggled with.

She decided to watch a little tv and had grabbed the remote from the couch while still walking to the kitchen. After pressing the power button without looking towards the screen she grabbed a bottle of water and began to open it when the television had suddenly switched to the news with an important report that could change the world as they knew it.

As she turned to see what they were talking about she dropped the bottle spilling the water all over the floor. She stood frozen with her jaw dropped as she witnessed the exposure of her entire kind. Hearing the anchors on the screen talk about a video revealing definitive proof of the existence of supernaturals or as one of the anchors seemed to prefer monsters.

Eve sat on the couch awestruck at what she was witnessing as they began to play the video for everyone to see and hear.

“You believe that you are safe,” a voice hidden behind multiple filters speaks, “you don’t understand just how wrong you are about that.” the picture black until a silhouetted figure of a man in front of a gray wall appears. “You believe that we are safe when wars are not being waged, or when crime has significantly declined but the truth is we have never been safe. Do you know why?” he paused as if waiting for an answer and then stated what was not ready to be stated in a world like this one, “Because supernatural beings exist.”

The man leaned back a bit and took a breath before continuing, “Now I’m sure you’re confused by what I mean; let me just be clear I am not talking about tinkerbell or santa or the fairy godmother from cinderella, no I mean to say that creatures from legend and folklore are real.” as the man continued to talk, historical pictures and interpretations of supernaturals began to flood the video, “vampires, werewolves, trolls, witches, fairies; all of it is real and it is dangerous.” The images cleared and the man returned and continued, “Now before you say, ‘this man is crazy if he thinks these stories are real’ why don’t I just show you what we have gathered?”

Upon finishing that statement various images and videos of real people began to appear. People doing inhuman things. Wings sprouting from their backs, eyes glowing as they were clearly performing a ritual of some kind, even certain species of inhuman supernaturals made appearances and while these were being shown the man said, “As you can see we have all the necessary proof to show that these monsters are real and living among you. We have even gone to the liberty of sending copies to your government officials to confirm them to be real.”

The videos and images stopped showing and went back to the man in the shadows and he continued, “So you see, you are truly not safe...we are truly not safe. How can we be safe with these freaks and monsters walking the same planet as us. If you truly wish for safety and peace then join our ranks and help us destroy these monsters and take back our world.”

As the video draws to a conclusion the man sits up and says, “We are the Supernatural Persons Investigation Team and all we wish for, is for humanity to live safely.”

And with that the video turned black.

People everywhere were absolutely stunned and floored. Many found themselves unable to even move or look away from their screens because of what they just witnessed. Some still found it hard to believe that supernatural beings actually existed but just as they said the videos shared in the video were indeed sent to important government officials and analyzed by top of the line minds and found to be inconclusively real.

For many humans they didn’t know what to believe, ‘were they truly safe?’, ‘how could this be real?’, ‘is someone I know one of them?’, ‘why hasn’t anyone been able to prove they were real sooner?’ one thing was for sure though, panic, paranoia, hysteria began to fill their bodies as the moments passed and people knew it would be like the salem witch trials all over again. Only this time they were looking for real witches as well as other creatures like them.

Now for the supernaturals many knew that things were about to change and one thing was most definitely for sure; it was about to get really messy.
