***MICHAEL'S POV***
I was holding the small box in my hands. The lid was opened and I gently ran my finger over the small vials inside. Some were clear and others were a milky white color. All were created to exert some control over people. Over peoples consciousness or arousal, their sense of taste or sight, all of them were meant for kidnappers to control their prey.
I looked up at the inside of the lid, where there was a small hatch in it. I didn't open it, but I didn't need to. I knew what was in it. A small vial of poison, only to be used if the client decides his investment wasn't worth it. We couldn't just let the girl go, she would reveal all our secrets. This had never happened before but it was our safeguard.
When we had first started this business, Louis had entrusted me with this box, because I had gotten the best grades in chemistry.
I closed the lid and locked it with the key I always wore around my neck.
Just then Harry and Maya walked in. Zayn followed behind them.
"Maya, listen," Louis said, jumping up.
But she held up her hand to quiet him. We sat there and waited for her to speak.
"I haven't forgiven you. But since I'm apparently stuck here for the foreseeable future, I will give you the chance to make it up."
"You know we can't let you go," Niall said.
"I know. I've given up on that. I'll let you figure out how you want to make it up to me."
We sat there for a moment. Then I thought of something.
I reopened my box of chemicals and pulled out the vial that contained the "love potion" that we had used on Maya.
I got up and stood in front of Maya. She looked up at me, her eyes wide with innocence. I was reminded of the last time I saw her like that.
~~~FLASHBACK~~~
I leaned against the building at the shelter where she volunteered. Eventually she came out with several leashes connected to several dogs.
Her hair now had pink streaks in it and she had taken out a few of her piercings but she was dressed in a 90s grunge fashion that I loved, wearing ripped jeans and a red flannel over a Black Veil Brides t-shirt.
"Can I help you?" She asked as she walked by me.
I had a beenie pulled over my bright red hair, had taken out my piercings and I had huge sun glasses on.
"I'm looking for a dog for my friend," I said.
"Well I've got a few right here," she said.
She kneeled down and picked up one tiny fluff ball of a dog.
"Cutie, isn't he?" She asked, rubbing the dogs stomach.
I looked at her and her eyes were light and loving as she handled the puppy. My heart skipped a beat.
"Ya," I replied, staring at her heart shaped face, "she is."
~~~FLASHBACK OVER~~~
"Here," I said, handing Maya the vial.
"What's this?" She asked, looking down at her hand.
"This is what we used on you. I'm the only one who has a vial of it. I want you to hold on to it."
Maya looked up at me, her eyes glowing with the beginnings of tears.
"Thank you," she whispered, closing her hand over the tiny bottle.
She wrapped me in a hug, pressing her face to my chest. I held her carefully, running my hand over her hair.
"By the way," she said, looking up at me, "you never did get your friend that dog he wanted."
She winked at me and I laughed out loud.
"Very true, sleeping beauty."
