chapter three/ eyes on home

The rough mountainsides turned to soft grass under the traveling cat's paws. It was apparent they would reach the territories soon and while the tension had eased up, brambleclaw and especially stormfur didn't say a word to her. Although that didn't stop tawnypelt or squirrelpaw from trying to lighten the mood. 

"THAT WAS NOT HOW IT HAPPENED" squirrelpaw giggled

Tawnypelt grinned "Oh so you intended on getting stuck in the fence?"

Squirrelpaw wiggled her nose "Of Course I did"

her mock haughtiness made even crowpaw purr, all things considered, the group seemed to be getting along well. Brambleclaw and Stormfur were at the front of the group. They had been practically joint at the hip since they left the tribe. It didn't bother her, it was nice to see them get along, but she couldn't help but worry they were talking about her and crowpaw. She knew it was irrational but it felt as though they were teaming up on her. Besides who was stormfur to judge? Or had he assumed no cat knew about his obvious infatuation with squirrelpaw.

As they combed the slope the territories came into view. 

The wind blew against her long silky pelt making it fly in the wing. Crowpaw shot her a smile "It's good to be home"

Feathertail couldn't help but agree but at the same time their conversation from the stream hit her, the traveling cats had no idea how long it would be until they finally moved, and feathertail didn't want to leave crowpaw's company yet. Especially in favor of stormfur who seemed too angry at her to even gaze in her direction. 

Their paws carried them swiftly into windclan territory.

Crowpaw dipped his head "Goodbye and I wish you all good luck" his gaze landed on feathertail and he let out a smile "I can't wait to see you all again. "

As Brambleclaw, squirrelpaw, and tawnypelt went their separate ways stormfur and feathertail headed into riverclan territory alone. Feathertail's pelt pricked, should she say something? This was her chance to mend things.

"It's good to be back in riverclan territory isn't it?"

Stormfur nodded his eyes still focused "yes it is good to get you back here"

Feathertail blinked "and what is that supposed to mean?"

He stared at her, his eyes had a hint of disdain "Well for one thing you came back alive"

Feathertail narrowed her eyes "This again really? Can we please let this go?"

Stormfur bristled "Let this go? You almost died back there! Do you even care? I have already lost enough family, I don't need to lose you too!"

Feathertail winced her gaze softening "Stormfur.. I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you, but someone had to save crow-"

"Crowpaw!" Stormfur spat his name out like rotten prey "Feathertail are you serious? Do you think I wouldn't find out about your little plan?"

Feathertail bristled "And what is it to you? Arent you the one pinning after that thunderclan apprentice? Love is love! We of all cats should know that"

Stormfur stiffened "And where did it get us? We were almost killed for being half clan! And you would prove them right by betraying your clan?"

"That was on riverclan not us! Both you and I know it was unfair to judge us, Riverclan turned their backs on us!" 

Stormfur shook his head "You see this is exactly what I'm talking about, you were finally starting to settle in before the journey, finally being a riverclan cat, and now some no good windclan apprentice barges in and you give it all up? Crowpaw ruined you! And I swear on starclan I wont let you throw your life away like our parents did!"

"Our parents found love! They had us! That isnt throwing away their life! But living it with the one they love!"

Stormfur fired back "And where did it get our mother? Dead! We never got to properly meet her! Instead we grew up without a mother, and lost our father before too long too."

Rustling from the bushes interrupted them. The dark tabby pelt of hawkfrost slunk out, his eyes narrowed "Your trespassing on riverclan territory leave now or-" He stopped recognition sparking in his gaze. "Feathertail and stormfur... I didn't expect to see you here" 

Stormfur stiffened "we are riverclan cats are we not?"

Hawkfrost stared at him "Thats up to leopardstar, you two are the ones who chose to abandon your clan"

Feathertail shook her head "No hawkfrost you don't understand we didn't run off starclan sent us away, we bring urgent news we have to tell leopardstar." 

Interest gleamed in his blue eyes as he looked them over. "very well, come on, and feathertail would you mind telling me more about this prophecy?"

Feathertail nodded, and tried to explain best she could, the more cats she could convince the better.

Hawkfrost nodded "and are you sure you properly understood the message"

Feathertail blinked at him confused "Of course midnight told us herself"

Hawkfrost shooke his head "Feathertail where has your judgment gone? She is a badger, don't be so naive"

Feathertail blinked at him in frustration "Hawkfrost Starclan themselves sent me and the other cats to find midnight, we can trust her. " 

Hawkfrost sighed and looked ahead "Very well I trust you, although would you mind telling mothwing about it? she may be able to help you find where we are supposed to go"

Feathertail blinked, it was nice to have a clanmate put their trust in her, especially after her spat with stormfur, even if he hated her for it at least some of her clanmates had fait in her.
