If you seek peace, be still.
If you seek wisdom, be silent.
If you seek love, be yourself.
This is something a Christian woman posted (or most likely reposted) on facebook not long ago, and I wanted to use it to talk about how subtly motivational things like these guide us to lean on ourselves or the world around us instead of God and His Word.
I wonder if you really gained anything from this. They're nice words, but they feel hollow. They take what the Bible says but leave out the parts that mention God by name, or at all. So let's make some adjustments!
Psalm 46:10
He says, "Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should as God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
1 John 4:16
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
If you seek peace, be still and know that Christ is Lord over all.
If you seek wisdom, ask it of God, who gives it freely.
If you seek love, find it in Jesus, for He Himself IS love.
THIS is a statement with real power, because it comes from God. These words from JESUS, not a motivational speaker whose focus is to live a balanced and happy life in this temporary world.
God's peace, love, and wisdom are endless!
