Years of working in BAU had changed Spencer's life - for better and for worse. From battling with his addiction to witnessing his girlfriend's life being taken away in front of his eyes, Spencer had to endured a lot of battles alone. When a new neig...
When Spencer stepped into the bullpen and greeted by the sight of his teammate gathered together on Emily's desk, he knew his day today would be interesting to say the least. Considering his line of job, the word interesting isn't exactly the best one to describe the dynamic nature of his job. But one glance towards Garcia loomed around and not so subtly kept glancing towards Hotch's office was already a confirmation that today would be interesting, for the lack thereof.
Spencer wordlessly slipped into his desk right across Emily's, his eyebrow raised as he took a sip of his coffee. All of them glanced up to see him, smiling, before glancing towards Hotch's office again. Spencer furrowed his eyebrows, and his eyes widened in wonder when he saw the door closed shut.
That's unusual.
"Anyone care enough to tell me what's wrong?" Spencer poked. He leaned his back into his chair, spun a little as he waited.
"You tell me," Morgan chimed in from his desk right beside Emily's. He grinned. "They're trying to stick their noses into Hotch's business."
"I take offense to that!" Emily said as she threw a crumpled paper towards Morgan, smiling in triumph as it landed square on his forehead. "You were the one who ignite the fire. And you know it's not just us trying to stick our noses."
"We think that we're having a new agent starting today," JJ explained.
Garcia turned her attention fully to Spencer now. Her smile was so wide, just like any other day, and she was practically beaming and vibrating with excitement. It was hard not to get her excitement rubbed on him. "Probably they fill for the communication liaison. And that only means I can come back as a full-time Oracle for you all mortals."
As if on cue, Hotch's office door swung open and revealed him walking out – alongside the supposedly new agent. Everyone immediately bolted out from their spots, pretending like they weren't just gathered together and gossips about the new agent. Spencer and Morgan shared an amused look as they watched everyone busying their hands awkwardly tried to look like they were working on something.
Hotch raised a questioning eyebrow, his stoic face indicated he was not amused. Or amused. Probably, his face was mostly unreadable when he was around the office. He cleared his throat as he started, "Great. Now that everyone gathers here today, I'd just get started."
Morgan discreetly snorted a laugh.
"Everyone, meet Agent Haywood. She's starting today to fill for communication liaison. Agent Haywood, meet the team," Hotch gestured his hand towards the team.
Spencer perked up at the mention of the name almost immediately. He was sure he would sprain his neck if he was unlucky at the speed he was going. His eyes darted into the unassuming presence behind Hotch's back, eyes widened as he spotted a familiar sight.
"That's Morgan, Prentiss, Garcia, JJ, and Dr. Reid," Hotch said as he introduced his team one by one. Spencer waved meekly at Clementine, somehow bashful at the recognition in her eyes and the confused smile on her face. "Now that all of you have met her, why don't any of you go back to work? JJ, I believe you'd like to show Agent Haywood her new office."
JJ immediately made a dash towards Clementine. "Hi, I'm Jennifer Jareau. But you can call me JJ."
"Hi, JJ. I'm Clementine Haywood. Pleasure to meet you."
"Believe me, the pleasure is all mine," JJ said as she gestured to Clementine to follow her. "Let me show you your new office. I know that the first day can be overwhelming..."
Spencer didn't catch the rest of the conversation as Clementine and JJ made their way into Clementine's office. He trailed his eyes, following the sight of Clementine and JJ falling into a comfortable and easy conversation between them.

Miraculously, today has been one of those days where they would stay around the office wrecking their brain finishing stacks of paperwork. He had heard Morgan groaning and complaining for approximately thirty times in the past hours, and it's not even lunchtime yet. Something about him made for the field and not the desk, Morgan would say, and Spencer just rolled his eyes every time.
It does get a little tedious and tiresome to spend the rest of the day glaring at files of paperwork and gruesome pictures from crime scenes. His back started to get hurt from sitting way too long and his feet started to fall asleep.
Perhaps that's why he found himself in the kitchenette again, hands itching to grab for another cup of coffee. Morgan's words slowly drilled and embedded into his brain that he started to miss being out in the field. Spencer doesn't even enjoy being out that much unless it was for his afternoon walk.
"Today's a slow day huh?" a voice pulled Spencer outside his trance. Spencer whipped his head immediately towards the owner of the voice.
"This kind of day is very rare," Spencer replied as he poured himself a cup of coffee. "How's your first day?"
Clementine grinned at him as she gently maneuvered her way around the kitchenette. Spencer watched her pour herself a cup of coffee into a pastel blue mug that littered with small daisies patterns. "It was... okay? I think I'm doing okay. It's obviously very different from my previous job, though."
"I know you'll manage," Spencer poured three spoonsful of sugar into his coffee, feeling the stares bore into his side as he nonchalantly stirred his coffee. He gently took a sip from his coffee, let out a hum of content at the taste.
"Have that much faith in me already?" Clementine asked, her side of her lips tugged upwards slightly. Spencer noticed she poured creamer into her coffee and stirred it.
"Do you know that daisies grow everywhere except Antarctica?" Spencer raised his mug slightly to make a point, gesturing towards her mug. Clementine took a glance towards her mug, noticing the daisies pattern littered her mug. "Daisies are extremely sturdy plants. They withhold every single thing thrown against them. Be it pesticides or pests, they usually thrive wherever they are."
"They also symbolize innocence and purity," Clementine pointed out as she walked away from the kitchenette. Spencer was quick on his feet to follow her steps.
"Yes. But if you really look into the nature of the plant, I'd say they symbolize bravery and resilience too."
Clementine let out a laugh, humor tinkled in her eyes and glowed underneath the light. Spencer found himself smiling, though he was a little unsure on what she had found hilarious. "I like the way you think," Clementine said finally.
"Don't you agree? Just think about it!"
"Now that you say it, I think you should rewrite its meaning," Clementine raised her mug, an amused expression made home on her face.
The corner of his lips twitched upwards. Spencer shook his head as he made his way towards his desk, eyes still watching Clementine who turned her back and made small, jumpy steps towards her office. Spencer let out a sigh when his eyes landed on stacks of manila files on his desk. If he started working on one now, he would have finished half of it by the time lunch rolled out.
