I tilted my head to the side as I read the words on the gravestone.

In Loving Memory Of
Kang Seulgi
1994 - 2019

Kang Seulgi. She had died two years ago - Apparently the same day I woke up from my coma as my brother had told me. I didn't know much about her except that she was the one who saved my life. Without her, I wouldn't have woken up.

I remember hearing her the last few days before I woke up. She had begged me for my forgiveness multiple times. I didn't understand why though. What had she done to me? I didn't even know her.

I asked my brother about her and why she would say those things but he refused to even open his mouth when the topic was brought up. He had only told me her name but nothing more. Not until today, August 28th, 2021. Exactly two years from her death. Now that I was older he felt like I could handle the truth and wanted to bring me to her grave to meet her.

I turned to look at him. His hands were holding onto a small bouquet of roses and his eyes were wet and swollen. His lips were dry and dark circles started to form under his eyes. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. I had never seen him in such a vulnerable state before. He was always strong and rarely showed these types of emotions. This woman must have had a big impact on him.

From what I know, he retired from the criminal world right directly after her death and we both moved to New York. My other brother, Kai, is still working for the FBI but the other guys had retired as well. I think they all went to live in Busan except for Yuta who went back to Japan. I was a little saddened because that meant I wouldn't be able to experience being a criminal, but that was probably for the best considering what had happened to me.

"Yong," I then spoke quietly, making him turn to me.

He smiled a faint smile and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "Hm?"

"How did she die?" I asked him and a heavy sigh escaped his lips as he turned back to the gravestone.

He told me the whole story about her.

I was shocked to hear that she was the one who shot me. That was probably why she begged me for her forgiveness that time. I got a little angry at Kai and Yuta as well, but then I understood why they did what they did. It was the criminal world after all. You couldn't please everyone.

"Was she your girlfriend?" I asked him, in which he only chuckled in return.

"Maybe if we had more time," he paused and looked down at the roses in his hands.

He stayed silent, struggling to find the right words. I understood it was hard for him to finish that sentence. "Did she love you back?" I then asked.

"I hope she did. I hope she does."

I nodded at his answer and grabbed the roses in his hands, catching him off guard. I walked towards the grave and knelt down to put them on top of it.

"I forgive you, Kang Seulgi."

.............................

1 year later...

The twenty girls stood in front of the gravestone, tired as they had just flown back from China after hunting Kai all around the world for three years. But finally, finally:

"We did it Seulgi-ah," Irene breathed out as she sat down on the grass. "We finally killed him."

"That son of a bitch was hard to kill," Yeri muttered tiredly as she placed the flowers and teddy bears by the gravestone.

"Oh! Taeyong must've been here," Jisoo pointed out as she saw the same bouquet of red roses. She realized he always bought the same bouquet every year.

"He's lucky we didn't kill him too," Soojin stated and closed her eyes, taking in the warm sunlight.

"Seulgi wouldn't have wanted that," Momo smiled, remembering when Seulgi had called her and asked for help with the letter to Taeyong.

"Yeah," Wendy breathed out.

"We miss you, Seulgi," Joy whispered, turning away from the grave and looking at the other people walking around the graveyard, mourning.

..............................

40 years later...

Taeyong clutched onto his cane as he stepped into the graveyard. Though he limped in his steps and felt his body ache - He still smiled, knowing he would meet her soon.

While exhaling the cold air, he held onto his cane for support as he sat down on the cold, hard ground. He placed the cane beside him and looked at the gravestone on the other side of him, frowning slightly as no one had left any flowers there for a while.

"I told Jaemin to buy some flowers," he snorted, preparing himself to scold the younger sibling later on.

"Ten passed away last week," he then spoke, staring at the gravestone. "The funeral will be held in two weeks," he said.

He scratched the back of his head and stuffed his hand into his pocket, taking out a piece of paper. The corners of it had turned yellow and some parts had ripped off but you could still read the words written on it.

"Remember this?" he asked and held up the paper. "It's your letter."

He smiled and skimmed through the letter for the thousandth time the past forty three years. "It's my time to go soon, too," he mumbled. "I haven't been feeling well Seulgi. My body is slowly failing me."

Though it hurt to move his body, he managed to lay down right beside her, staring at the sky filled with stars. The sound of the winds blowing filled the unbearable silence. He hated the silence whenever he was there. The feeling of talking to someone without them having the chance to answer bothered him a lot. But soon. Soon they would be able to talk to each other again.

"You wrote in your letter that you would like to meet me once more in the future. I'm happy to say that we'll finally meet again, Kang Seulgi," he assured her and closed his eyes, feeling himself slowly fall asleep right beside her.
