When the remaining gladers find themselves in company of Jorge and Brenda they also discover Zara. She is Jorges non-biological daughter like Brenda. She is 14 and fierce. She may even have more sass than Minho.
"Hey there you are!" Sonya said with relief in her voice. Zara had slept the whole day on the rock on the hill.
"Everyone's been going mad looking for you, thought maybe the Kayoties got you" She chuckled as she leant a hand to the sleepy Zara. She accepted and rose to her feet.
"Sorry, i didn't mean to fall asleep"
"Nah don't worry about it, wanna come help me do my nails? We'll do yours too" She asked as they walked down the hill and back to the campground.
"Yeah sure" She smiled and they headed through the tents until they reached Sonya's.
They had been painting each others nails and laughing and making jokes for hours
"So how did Newt take the news of having a sister?" Zara asked while waiting for her nails to dry.
"He was surprised at first, then happy, then sad, then happy again" She laughed
"He's very emotional, probably on his period" Zara said and Sonya burst out laughing.
"Hey your nails look good" She said after she recovered from laughing so hard
"Thanks, yours too, light blue suits you" Zara complemented.
"So do you sing?" Sonya asked
"Why do you ask?" Zara asked, confusion lacing her voice
"No reason, i was just wondering"
"Well everyone can sing, I happen to not sing very well"
"Bullshit, lemme hear you"
"No way!" Zara exclaimed. She had never sung for anyone before, not Alec, not Brenda, not Jorge, NO ONE.
"pleaseeeeeeeeee i don't even care if your shit, so am i" Sonya pleaded
"Fine but you have to turn around."
"Done" Sonya said giddily. Zara took a deep breath and started singing
"And i said Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone i'll be waiting all that's left to do is run you'll be the prince and i'll be the princess its a love story baby just say yes"
"OH MY GOOOOOOOODDD" Sonya squealed
"YOUR SO FUCKING GOOD WHAT THE FUCKKKK"
"Oh my god shut up" Zara shied away
"No seriously you're insane. goosebumps, literal goosebumps"
"alright that's enough, let's move on" Zara said and tried to find something else to talk about
"Sonya it's time for- Zara! Where were you? We've been looking everywhere!" Newt said as he rushed in and hugged Zara
"Sorry, I was sleeping on the hill then i was here for a few hours"
"You had us all worried, they'll be happy to see you. C'mon guys it's time for dinner"
We all walked to lunch together and Sonya was telling Newt how Zara could sing while Zara was going red from embarrassment and trying to change the subject.
While they were eating sausages that were cooked over the fire Sonya spoke up
"I'm bored, i think we need entertainment. It would be amazing if someone here could sing" She said exaggeratedly looking at Zara.
"Zara i heard you can sing" Newt piped up
"Nope, not me." She said and looking down
"C'mon, it doesn't matter if you can't, just gives us something to laugh at" Minho smirked
"Oh yeah cause my main objective is to be laughed at" She sneered
"pleaseee" Sonya begged. Soon everyone was egging Zara on and she eventually gave in.
"Fine but what do i sing?"
"Sing the same thing you sang to me" Sonya said
"I'm murdering you all after this" She said and took a deep breath. She started singing the same thing and everyones mouths dropped. Brenda teared up but she was always dramatic. Everyone else was in complete awe.
"Holy shit. That was.."
"Insane" Newt started and Thomas finished when Zara was done.
"Ok now i'm going to erase myself from this planet." Zara said and turned to go to her tent
"No wait that was fucking brilliant! Please sing more! " Newt said while grabbing her wrist
"Fucking hell fine" Zara huffed and sat back down. They were all sitting on logs at the fire listening to Zara sing. Sometimes everyone would join in and others they would just let the angelic voice flow into their ears.
"Now im going to bed" Zara said an hour later
"Night Zara"
"night!"
"Sleep well"
"Night"
She nodded at everyone and went to bed. That was the first time she had sung and she was kinda happy. She went to sleep with a smile on her face. All was well in the world. It was just missing one thing
