This is insane.

My fate lies in the hands of a riddle.

Let's go find ourselves a sorceress.

I pushed my shoulders back and took a deep breath. I dart my eyes back and forth, looking for any signs of a moonlit path or blue crystal.

Ridiculous, I know.

I squinted my eyes as I looked out into the distance. I saw a reflection of light not far ahead. I wandered towards the light and as I got closer, I gasped at the sight.

In front of me was a gorgeous lake. The moonlight reflected on its shimmery surface. A silver path laid before me, glistening and sparkling under the radiant glow of the moon. The lake looked like a massive mirror, casting silver spots of light into the night sky.

I see it. There, in the middle of the moonlit path, a faint blue glow called to me.

The cerulean crystal.

I just need to get in the water to retrieve it.

I removed my coat and boots, leaving them on the grass. A breeze whispered past me, sending a chill down my spine.

I stepped onto the edge of the lake. I could feel the soft, moist grass under my bare feet. I balled my hands up into fists and shook myself off. Yes, the water will most likely be freezing cold but I need to do this.

I can do this.

I looked down at the lake, about to step in.

That was a mistake.

I looked straight into my eyes. My dark purple hair was in dutch braids on either side of my face. There were several black highlights and loose strands of hair tucked behind my ear. My foot hovered above the lake while I stared at those eyes.

Those amber eyes.

No no no.

My surroundings stopped at once. The breeze no longer blew past me. The crickets stopped chirping. All I could hear was silence.

No...

I felt myself getting pulled into a vision. Everything around me started to warp. I heard a crackling sound in the distance.

Images started to form around me. My surroundings began to piece together.

I could feel the heat. I could smell the smoke.

My eyes started to blur from the fumes. I coughed uncontrollably as it filled my lungs.

I was in a forest. There were flames all over the place, burning down trees and shrubs in an instant.

Fire.

I was surrounded by haze. I frantically waved my arms around to clear the smoke.

It was scorching hot.

I need to get out of here.

I trudged forward, desperate for air. I was panting and covered in sweat.

Is this my future? I don't understand...

I looked around me. Standing there was a figure, looking down at something on the ground.

Me.

There I lay. Lifeless.

I wasn't breathing. I had scars and burn marks all over me.

I died.

The figure laughed maniacally. I couldn't see who it was, with all the smoke and fire.

I tried to rush forward, to see who it was.

The sounds began to grow distant. The smoke started to dissipate.

No!

The scene disintegrated before me. I'm back at the lake with my foot hovering above the water, staring at my own reflection.

I stumbled forward and fell on my knees.

All this time, I was so afraid to see my own future.

This can't be.

When am I going to die? How?

I sighed in disbelief. The truth dawning on me.

Deep down I knew, this was real.

My visions were never wrong. I may not know when it will happen, but I do know it's true.

I looked out at the horizon, unsure of what to do.

My heart was still beating quickly, my breaths came out short and rapidly.

I need to...

The glow from the cerulean crystal catches my eye.

I need to retrieve that.

Right. I need to see the sorceress. She can help me.

I heaved myself back up and tried to calm myself down.

I need to... I need...

My eyes felt heavy. I felt my legs giving up on me.

I...

Darkness.

Darkness
