"Explain before I call the police." Ray demanded, throwing him on the ground.

"Ray, be gentle." I scolded, apologizing to the man.

In this situation, it would be normal for someone to be creeped out or disgusted, but for some reason, I felt nothing of the sort.

"Sir, why have you been eating my dog's food?" i inquired, bending down to face him.

"Miss, I am so sorry. It's just hard to earn money out there and I stumbled upon food and I couldn't help myself." teras began to flow down from his eyes.

"I didn't mean to scare you. I'm so sorry. I promise not to come here ever again. I'm so sorry." he begged me for forgiveness, kneeling down.

"Ray, stand down." I commanded. He was about to argue back but I stopped him.

"Sir, we won't call the police. Instead, we have an offer." I mentioned. He looked so scared, I felt sorry for him.

His body looked like it hadn't had food for days. He was clearly malnourished, not to mention how frail he was for his age. He shouldn't be more than 70.

"My mother owns a bakery and we're honestly understaffed. Work for us and we can guarantee you a free meal and a place to stay." I said.

"Y/n!" Ray grabbed my shoulder.

"I am so thankful, but I have to refuse. What I have done is unforgivable. I refuse to accept your kindness." he declined.

"What have you done wrong? You were clearly trying to live. Despite knowing this is a bakery, you didn't attempt to break in and steal our goods." I retorted.

"I won't take no for an answer. We don't have a spare bedroom at the moment. Would you mind staying in the living room? We'll prepare you a meal." I said.

After almost 15 minutes of him repeatedly thanking us, we finally managed to get him to sleep.

"We need to talk." Ray said, dragging me to my room.

"What would you have done if his intentions weren't as harmless?" he questioned.

"Then-" I got off.

"What if he hurt you? What if he does something way worse than just hurting you?" he shouted.

He's frustrated. There's no point in answering back to him. In this state, it's impossible to say anything back.

"Y/n, don't you think you're too kind?" he asked as I sat on my bed.

"There's nothing wrong with being kind." I mumbled.

"Yes, there's nothing wrong but if you're gonna keep at it, you're going to get hurt soon. Not everyone is kind, Y/n." he sighed.

"I know that but why must I change? If they do end up hurting me, then that's just it." I shrugged.

"Seriously..." he walked up to me and bent down to face me.

"Why do you always make me feel like this no matter how reckless you are?" he rested his forehead on mine.

"What-?" I muttered, confused.

"May I?" he asked for permission.

My heart beat erratically in my chest. I already knew what he wanted.

The way he scolds me but shows his sincerity.

The way his eyes soften.

The way he asks for consent despite the fact that we've been dating for a while now.

I slowly nodded to reply to his question.

I could see the change of color on his face as he placed his hand next to me and the other under my chin.
