Akalei

The Power of a Princess

I ended up wearing the red dress he suggested, my hair was done and all I needed was for him to escort me to the vehicle. I was told I had to wear gloves as a sign that I'm not yet married, the crown was old fashioned in that sense in allowing skin contact.
Upon our arrival I was greeted by many nobles and royals, but I held onto Alaric for support.
Going inside the large estate I was overwhelmed with how many people approached me. I was introduced to sons of the wealthy and noble.

Hey Alaric, what do you think everyone is talking about? They look at me with a smile and it drops when they look at you.

Akalei you are the most desired person in the country, they are upset that you have a guard escorting you instead of their son. They aren't aware of why I have the privilege.

Is it because of your name? Or is it the fact that you are unofficially my fiancé?

A bit of both, the nobles are not aware of the deal that was made to keep the powers, but they are unaware that you have them as well. They don't know that your father has them. But I'll explain this another day-

"Akalei I knew we would meet again." I heard Zyair yell across the room
"Sir Zeke, it's a pleasure." I greet him formally
"Oh I forgot we have formalities here." He said reaching for my hand.
"Sorry but I'm uncomfortable with the atmosphere you created, first you were rude to address me by my name instead of my title, and now you reach for my hand when I did not extend it to you. Maybe you need etiquette lessons Sir Zeke." I spoke with confidence
"If I'm the rude one why are you not in blue?" He smirked
"That dress wasn't ready in time, and I do what I'm advised. Good day Sir Zeke." I walk away.

Good job princess. You'll see him again but just know that it's customary to bow to nobles.

I smiled at him in response, he took me around to greet everyone. When we met back up with my grandmother she was alone.

"I see you taught her well." She smiled
"No your highness. I didn't need to help her too much. But the house of Zeke may have offended her." He spoke while staying in a bowed position
"Akalei, how are you feeling? I can't help but notice that you look tired." She looked over to me
"I'm not good with big crowds but having Alaric around is really helping with the nerves. But many noble women are presenting their sons to me and it's getting uncomfortable." I told her
"They won't take offence that you leave early, they only requested my presence here tonight, but if you leave the House of Zeke may take offence." She warned
"Grandma, they shouted my name across the room and tried so hard to get my hand. I think their actions are more offensive to me than me not eating with them."I scoffed
"I can personally escort her back your majesty, with the attack that happened today it's not a good idea to keep her apart from me."
"But they will think something is up if you both leave, she will stay in this room while everyone is eating, we can say she fell ill. But you will stay stationed outside of the room with our guards around all the openings. When food is served you will go and get in directly from the kitchen. "
"Yes your highness."

When she left I was brought my drawing materials. Once I closed my eyes I reopened them to see I was outside looking at the burning estate. I was still in my red dress and my gloves were gone. It was already dark out, with a lot of people surrounding me and I wasn't sure if everyone was out.

"Alaric!" I called out.

When he never came I ran out to see him on the ground, there was no one around so I tried to get the attention of other people. I sensed that his body was fighting a toxin, I did what I could to heal him with my eyes. I pulled power from him to cover them again.
